Overview of the Team and role

Scheme Management Group (SMG) contributes to Comcare’s purpose to promote and enable safe and healthy work through excellence in scheme design and management. SMG is insight driven and works with scheme participants to achieve sustainable and better practice national schemes.

The Chief Data Office team is part of SMG and is responsible for ensuring that Comcare takes a mature and sophisticated approach to the management and use of data. To achieve that, the team works across Comcare to:

• Improve enterprise data governance.
• Foster a data driven organisational culture.
• Deliver better insights through new platforms and capability uplift.
• Ensure data architecture and data models cater for versatile reporting and analytics needs.
• Delineate impacts within our data environment to facilitate a better understanding and implementation of effective controls.
• Create a framework that helps people understand their responsibilities when it comes to data.
• Embed continuous improvement in process and quality of data captures.
• Ensure consistency in the description of common data terms.
• Ensure data is leveraged effectively to solve business problems.
• Enable data capability gaps to be identified and addressed across Comcare so that Groups can be more self-sufficient in working with data.

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Data Modelling, the Junior Data Architect supports the review of current state data architecture and the design and implementation of Comcare’s target state data architecture.

The Junior Data Architect maintains visibility of Comcare’s data assets, develops documentation to illustrate this, maps how data flows through our systems and provides a blueprint for managing data. The goal of the Junior Data Architect is to work with key stakeholders to ensure that data is managed appropriately and meets business needs for information. Comcare recognises that a well-designed data architecture is a crucial enabler to achieving organisational objectives.

The Junior Data Architect is responsible for developing and maintaining a dedicated library of data artefacts to enable effective data governance and assists the development of internal standards to promote data quality. This enables the successful execution of data and broader organisational initiatives.

This role will play a key role in the design and implementation of new technology solutions, in line with the target state data architecture and ensuring business needs are met.

Comcare is looking to invest in its data architecture capability in recognition of the critical role it plays in maximising the value of data and enabling strong governance in a modernising technology environment.

This is a well-supported role in terms of both informal and formal learning and development opportunities.

Mandatory Experience

• Experience with a wide range of cloud-based data technologies and tools, including one or more of the following: MS SQL, Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Databricks, Power BI.
• Strong practical understanding of data architecture, database structure principles and standards.

Security Clearance

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance
