Job Description

What Aurora Dairies can offer you

Aurora Dairies are currently seeking an Assistant Farm Manager for a sound & developing dairy farm located 15 minutes away from Smithton or 1 hour 20 minutes away from Burnie. The towns/cities have all the essential services available with many recreational activities on offer, along with cafes and restaurants.  

This farm is 414ha of effective dairy pasture, well drained flat to rolling contour, with 378ha under four centre pivots + K-Line irrigation systems. Milking a peak number of 1,400 cows through a 70-bail rotary shed, this farm has ACR’s, auto teat spray and auto drafting with a De Laval computer system. 

This farm is 100% Spring calving beginning early to mid-August. The herd is mixed size with medium frame X-Bred cows. We run a two-herd system with an easy entry & exit system and the farm is predominantly pasture based with pellets fed in the dairy. Replacement heifers, plus a portion of dry cows, are grazing on an adjoining owned block.

Accommodation is available and there could be opportunities for employment for your partner on this or one of our nearby farms, if required.

This role will include tasks the areas of:

  • Supporting the farm manager as second in charge.
  • Driving and upholding Animal Health and Safe Operating Procedures.
  • Herd management and nutrition, including calving, hospital herd care, AI/mating planning, dairy shed work and more.
  • Irrigation and pasture management.
  • Supervising staff.
  • Machinery operation.
  • Repairs and maintenance.

Qualifications

The desired skills and experience for this opportunity are:

  • Extensive dairy industry experience is required for this management role.
  • Tertiary qualification(s) in Agriculture or a related field is desired.
  • Committed to ensuring a safe workplace.
  • Reliable and punctual and ability to take responsibility.
  • Good work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Leadership skills and team player.
