Associate Nurse Unit Manager - Specialist Clinics and Outpatient Pathology
Position: Associate Nurse Unit Manager - Specialist Clinics and Outpatient Pathology
Employment Type: Fixed Term
Term: 11 March 2026 – 1 April 2027
Hours: Part time, 32 Hours per Fortnight (0.42 EFT)
 
This role presents an excellent opportunity for nurses who are motivated to further develop their leadership capabilities and contribute to the management of a multidisciplinary team within a dynamic and supportive clinical environment.
 


Position Overview and Performance Measures
The Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) will co-lead the management of Specialist Clinics and Outpatient Pathology services, supporting the coordination of nursing activities and related services to ensure high-quality patient care aligned with organisational strategic objectives.
In the absence of the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), the ANUM will assume responsibility for the operational management of Specialist Clinics and Outpatient Pathology.


 


Key Responsibilities and Performance Measures
•    Co-lead the management of Specialist Clinics and Outpatient Pathology services.
•    Coordinate nursing activities and related services to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred care.
•    Assume leadership responsibility in the absence of the NUM.
•    Develop and implement strategies to streamline workflows and enhance service delivery.
•    Support initiatives that improve patient experience across outpatient pathology and specialist clinics.
•    Contribute to quality, safety, and continuous improvement portfolios.


 


Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must demonstrate the following:
•    Registration as a Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration
•    Advanced communication and interpersonal skills
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel
•    Experience in staff management and leadership
•    Experience managing quality portfolios
•    Wound care management experience
•    Performance development and/or leadership experience


 


Remuneration as per Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2024-2028. ANUM Year 1 (Y0W11): $116,911.60 (full-time equivalent - to be prorated for Part Time) - ANUM Year 2 (YW12): $120,848.00 (full-time equivalent - to be prorated for Part Time), dependent on candidate experience. To be discussed with Hiring Manager.

1. Professional Leadership and Care Coordination

2. Effective Resource Management




  • Responsible for daily coordination of staff ensuring the safe and efficient service is provided

  • Manages staff and resources efficiently and manages the daily and future roster

  • Supports the orientation of new staff members, contributes to and participates in staff recruitment and supports NUM with staff appraisals

  • Promotes an environment which encourages awareness of financial resources and targets

  • Supports NUM with processes to improve financial variances



3. Contributes to clinical practice, education and research




  • Participates in the development of formal and informal educational sessions to continuously improve clinical practice

  • Collaborates with the NUM and clinical nurses to determine priorities for educational sessions

  • Encourages staff attendance at hospital in-service programmes, external conferences and short course program

  • Supports nursing research to promote clinical knowledge development and evidence based clinical practice

  • Systematically evaluates own practice and identifies pertinent areas of clinical practice, management and education for investigation

  • Ensures clinical practice is based on best practice standards in oncology nursing and current policies and procedures



4. Quality and Improvement




  • Works collaboratively with the NUM to establish and enable a culture of performance improvement and evaluation, and develops and evaluates new initiatives to mitigate risk, ensuring quality of nursing care and excellent patient outcomes

  • Supports the NUM with the development of KPIs and quality activities for the Ensures adherence and delivery against Service KPIs through active engagement with staff and role modelling

  • Participates in relevant unit activities including audits and reporting to monitor and report against standards of clinical practice, recommending improvements

  • Supports NUM with preparation and successful participation of the clinical unit in accreditation activities

  • Demonstrated leadership and promotion of implementation of evidence-based practice
