Automation Engineer

An opportunity exists for an experienced Automation Engineer to join our team in our Tullamarine facility. Working as part of the Electrical and Automation projects team on green field and brown field projects, whilst also supporting the Sales and Service teams with client upgrades, process audits, trouble shooting and service level agreements.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Use specialist knowledge to design and troubleshoot process control systems for GEA installations to meet customer specifications within the design concepts.
  • Manage automation/controls subcontractors (including GEA internal resources) to provide tender pricing and contract execution. 
  • Take responsibility for assigned projects from planning through to execution including onsite commissioning. 
  • Undertake detailed costing based on tender specifications.
  • Oversee control design activities including equipment specifications, software technical specification, software functional design specifications and take responsibility for technical decisions, execution of contract scope and process integrity.
  • Identify and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of problems in previous systems.
  • Once the project is let, manage procurement of components and systems development within the budget allowed.
  • Develop functional descriptions compliant with IEC 848 (Grafcet) standard from P&IDs and/or process descriptions. 
  • Set up and manage subcontracts for writing software according to the FD developed.
  • Create or assist in establishing a design and installation program for the work involved and manage the design program according to that plan. 
  • Provide technical support to the service and installation team.
  • Undertake on site commissioning for the project as required. Coordinate the work of others working on the plant design.
  • Assist the Sales and Applications team in developing and pricing the automation scope for an enquiry
  • Undertake warranty and after sales service work as required.
  • Develop in house tools for automation and business systems.

 

About You:

  • A Degree in Engineering / Mechatronics; or Bachelor of Information Technology Software Development; or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in industrial software development, automation engineering within a manufacturing environment, preferably the food or beverage sectors.
  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs and Functional Descriptions (Grafcet)
  • Experience in PLC and HMI configuration with Rockwell, Allen Bradley and Siemens exposure is preferred. 
  • Good understanding of Network Protocols-Ethernet/IP, Profinet, IO Link, Asi, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus DP & PA is essential.
  • Experience in costing an automation project scope within the Australian market
