About the role:
Phillip Riley is proudly assisting one of the major operators in Queensland’s energy network to find multiple Underground Cable Jointers for permanent, full-time employment, in the Brisbane area.
As part of the Field Services Department, the Grade 4 Technical Service Person will use their specialist skills and extensive range of competencies to perform construction, maintenance, and repair work on low-voltage, high-voltage and streetlight systems.
The employee will be able to perform a substantial range of activities as a multi-skilled tradesperson whilst working on a range of complex equipment types. As a Technical Serviceperson, you may make individual decisions about various aspects of unstructured tasks within your level of competence.
As required, Technical Servicepersons liaise with internal and external customers and have regular contact with
other team members, including at team meetings.
Working under limited supervision, daily tasks will include:
- Using specialist or multiple trade competencies and a variety of skills appropriate to the work to be performed at the specific location, display and apply technical knowledge whilst constructing and maintaining the distribution and transmission network. This work may include making connections to the network or other Customer Services related activities, or work in functions such as Overhead, Underground, Rapid Response, Substations, or workshops.
- Ensuring Workplace Health & Safety legislation and Company and statutory safety policies are met, and all work is performed to meet safety, environmental and legal responsibilities per standard work practices.
- Perform incidental and peripheral work, including site visits to prepare for jobs, and exercise a range of clerical skills in the provision of technical services.
- Ensure completion of on-site risk assessments and implement control measures in line with employee’s level of skill and training.
- Interpret work orders, maintain accurate records of work performed daily, and provide updates on the progress of job activities.
- Liaising with colleagues to discuss and agree on tasks at the worksite to complete jobs efficiently and effectively, having regard to legislative and corporate requirements as well as customer expectations.
- Perform inspections and tests on network plant and equipment and record defects found.
- Perform high and low voltage switching as required.
- Provide technical guidance, on-the-job coaching, and instruction to others within and outside of the workgroup.
- Safely use and maintain Company vehicles/plant, tools/equipment, and hazardous substances.
You will be fully provided with everything you need including tools and PPE to carry out these tasks to the best of your ability.
About you:
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, well-organised individual, capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously and possessing good communication skills to effectively perform the required work. Preferably, you will be based in or nearby the Brisbane area.
The following qualifications and expertise will be required:
(mandatory) - Qualifications as an Electrician in Australia (Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician)
- Current Australian (QLD) Electrical Licence.
- Cert III Cable Jointing and a wealth of experience with 33kv high-pressure fluid-filled cables.
- High Voltage Switching (desirable)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as an electrician in Australia
- Knowledge of preventive and corrective electrical maintenance
- Demonstrated knowledge of electricity transmission and distribution systems, including the construction and maintenance of a distribution and/or transmission electrical network.
- Satisfactory pre-employment health assessment and/or ongoing medical assessments as required.
Competencies:
- Ability to use a computer, and basic software applications or to learn such skills.
- Be prepared to participate in a standby roster and to work a reasonable amount of overtime if required.
- Be prepared to travel intra or interstate from time to time to undertake work.
- Knowledge of commercial/industrial electrical installations.
- Able to work in a range of environments, including exposed conditions (sun, wind, rain, etc), heights and confined spaces.
- Commitment to follow safety procedures and requirements to ensure the safety of work teams in the field and zone substations, traffic, and the public.
- Ability to respond to changing work situations and requirements as necessary.
- Ability to work effectively and productively within a team environment where task completion is reliant in the cooperation of all members of the team.
- Ability to meet deadlines on scheduled work and to efficiently complete assigned tasks.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with team members and external contacts.
- Ability to understand and respond appropriately to the needs of customers.
