Job Description - Career Development Officer

  • Full time, fixed term until 31 December 2027

  • HEO 7 · Base Salary $112,628 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Sydney Careers team is looking for a Career Development Officer who will facilitate optimum career and employment outcomes for undergraduate and postgraduate students during their studies and upon graduation by researching the needs of students and connecting students with internship opportunities in a range of industries. The Career Development Officer will work closely with the School of Architecture, Design and Planning at the University to provide bespoke career services support, while also engaging students’ career journey by development and delivery of a range of professional careers services, including career skills workshops and individual services.

As a member of the Career Development Team, you will actively promote Careers Centre services to students and faculties.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • deliver tailored careers education services to students, develop programs, and collaborate with faculty/school for effective delivery

  • maintain individual counselling, review online resources, track workshop attendance, and contribute to reporting and data collection

  • market programs and services to students through a range of methods and within available resources, utilising the latest technological methods and faculty/school contacts

  • identify students' career development needs, create programs and resources, and build relationships with employers.

  • foster a network of student contacts to promote Careers Centre services and events targeting the cohort

  • maintain industry connections, stay updated on career resources, foster team communication, and enhance faculty-specific knowledge to deliver relevant and tailored career services

  • evaluate programs and activities and feedback the information into the strategic planning process and to relevant faculty/school staff

  • training of Careers Centre and other staff in relation to career development needs of this cohort of students.

About you

  • experience in careers counselling and training and development in careers or related field

  • experience in designing, developing, delivering and evaluating educational programs

  • work history related to graduate employment in a field outside education and/or international work experience

  • understanding of graduate labour market and recruitment procedures and practices in Australia and overseas

  • strong computer skills, including competency of MS Suite

  • familiarity with and understanding of the tertiary environment

  • knowledge of skill requirements of different occupations and professions

  • strong teamwork and collaborative skills in a deadline oriented environment to ensure that CDT produce required outcomes

Sponsorship / work rights for Australia

You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to be eligible to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University. Similarly, your ongoing employment is conditional upon the satisfactory maintenance of all relevant clearances and background check requirements.
