AOD Case Worker – Gold Coast
Department:
Social Mission – Alcohol & Other Drugs
Location: Fairhaven Qld
Salary: SCHADS Level 4 
Status: Permanent | Full Time

As an AOD Case Worker, you’ll play a meaningful part in supporting individuals on their recovery journey. You’ll provide intensive, person‑centred case management to people experiencing alcohol and other drug challenges.

Why this role matters

The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.

Key Responsibilities

Client Support & Case Management

  • Build effective, empowering relationships that support participants to make independent, positive choices.
  • Conduct holistic, person‑centred screening and assessments, including identification of co‑occurring issues and referral to specialist services (e.g., psychologists, mental health).
  • Consider and support participants’ spiritual wellbeing in line with the TSA AOD Spirituality Framework.
  • Set, record, and monitor participant goals, providing regular feedback on progress.
  • Deliver coordinated care through advocacy, collaboration, and networking with external services.
  • Apply evidence‑based AOD interventions such as CBT, ACT, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, and Relapse Prevention.
  • Facilitate bio‑psycho‑social education groups, including the ‘Foundations’ program.
  • Support engagement with TSA programs such as chaplaincy, financial counselling, employment services, volunteering, and community activities.
  • Provide spiritual support where appropriate, including referral to Chaplains and facilitating access to participants’ chosen spiritual practices.
  • Conduct risk assessments using approved tools.
  • Respond effectively to critical incidents and security concerns.
  • Maintain accurate, high‑quality participant records and data in line with TSA standards and procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

Required / Preferred

  • Certificate IV in AOD (preferred), or relevant qualifications with industry experience.
  • Candidates with substantial experience and currently enrolled in a Cert IV AOD may also be considered.
  • Working With Children Check (as required).
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
