We are looking for an experienced Senior Underwriter to lead the NSW Casualty team. You will be accountable for achieving the team's financial targets, leading and developing a team of underwriters, and advancing our core business priorities. This role combines strategic leadership with hands on underwriting and broker management, requiring someone who can strengthen culture, raise performance standards and drive market engagement.

Key responsibilities: • Lead and develop a cohesive, high performing underwriting team: set clear priorities, run regular team meetings, coach and mentor direct reports, identify development opportunities and maintain team engagement and accountability. • Focus the team on core business priorities and financial performance: drive profitable growth, retention and robust underwriting discipline. • Underwrite and assess new business and renewals, applying sound judgment and pricing discipline in line with underwriting authority & guidelines. • Act as a referral point to other relevant employees within your team for matters outside of their underwriting authority. • Manage your own portfolio of brokers (scope and mix of corporate, large brokers or regional brokers will depend on experience), while supporting and overseeing the team's broker relationships and market engagement initiatives. • Monitor and report on financial performance, team metrics, market engagement and core priorities. • Provide practical leadership during escalations and act as the conduit between the team and senior management on portfolio issues, claims queries and other operational matters. • Identify and facilitate delivery of technical and soft skill training and development for employees withing your team. • Collaborate with claims, risk management, business operations and risk & governance to ensure integrated delivery of underwriting services and streamlined processes. • Contribute to product development and market representation through competitor/market analysis and participation in marketing initiatives.
About you • Significant, demonstrable experience in the General (non life) Insurance industry and in an aligned role within an insurer or broker. • Proven track record of leading teams. A strong, hands on leader who brings people together, drives accountability and focuses on team development. • Commercially minded with a focus on financial results and core business priorities. • Comfortable being both a people leader and an operational contributor (managing your own book while leading a team). • Strong communication and relationship skills with brokers, internal stakeholders and senior management. • Proficient in PC systems and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with databases for managing contacts and schedules. • Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline are desirable.
