The BUSY School is an integral part of the BUSY Group (BUSY), a not-for-profit organisation that began in 1977 with a vision to have more people in jobs, more people learning new skills, and more communities exposed to positive change, in partnership with employers and industry. (Refer www.busyatwork.com.au).

The BUSY School network, which comprises of eight operational campuses and over 180 staff, supporting more than 1,300 students, offers an alternative learning approach with the opportunity for young people who are disengaged from mainstream education to reconnect with education, while getting a head-start into employment.  Most traditional education programs designed to educate and support young people have rigid criteria and inflexible timetables, our programs are different.

The primary responsibility of the CEO is to lead, develop and promote the strategic quality and growth of The BUSY School including overall responsibility for implementing the school strategic plan.  In addition this role will ensure that that excellence is achieved across all BUSY School campuses in education, employment outcomes and wellbeing. Of critical importance is the requirement to deliver strategic growth including geographic expansion and the incorporation of new models of education. 
Key responsibilities include:
  • Lead The BUSY School communities to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for previously disengaged young people;
  • Manage and develop The BUSY School leadership team to deliver unique, tailored programs to young people;
  • Work with the school Board of Directors to establish and revise strategic plans;
  • Develop budgets and operational plans for Board approval;
  • Identify further opportunities and best practices in relation to education programs in Australia and abroad;
  • Identify and develop alternative learning methods;
  • Participate as a member of The BUSY Group Executive team;
  • Ensure compliance with legislation as outlined by State and Federal Governments;
  • Identify, develop and review The BUSY School suite of policies & procedures;
  • Maintain a focus on student employment and or further study outcomes through the campuses;
  • Take responsibility for the application, receipt and accountability of all Government and other funding; and
  • Drive marketing activity to position The BUSY School as a brand leader.
  
To be successful in this high profile role you will:
  • Possess a futures oriented and strategic approach;
  • Demonstrate an agility to work in a fast-paced environment, open to changes to improve outcomes;
  • Understand education legislation, regulations and policies across different jurisdictions;
  • Have an understanding of vocational pathways, alternate learning programs and blended education models;
  • Demonstrate commercial acumen relating to sustainable growth within the education sector;
  • Have experience with commercial property leasehold, acquisition and development requirements;
  • Have been successful in creating and delivering high performing teams;
  • Possess exceptional oral and written communication;
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyse problems, make decisions and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes;
  • Have proven positive stakeholder engagement experience; and
  • Have educational leadership experience (ideally in a secondary school) would be advantageous.
  
The ability and demonstrated experience in establishing success and culture in a start-up venture would be advantageous.
  
Appropriate tertiary qualifications are required and an MBA preferred but not essential.
