Your role at St John of God Subiaco Hospital
Step into a rewarding and dynamic role as a Chef at St John of God Subiaco Hospital. Join our dedicated hospital catering team, where your culinary expertise will make a real difference every day. As Senior member of the catering team, you will be responsible for preparing and presenting nutritious meals for patients and caregivers of the hospital, to a high standard of excellence and in accordance with the Australian Dietary Standards.
As Chef, you will operate within the Health Department of Western Australia (HDWA) regulations and the Hospital Food Safety Management Plan, contributing to a safe, compliant, and professional kitchen environment.
The role is offered on a Permanent Part-Time basis, working 37.5 hours per week
The Position:
Deliver high-quality meal services by preparing a range of dishes including cyclic menus, à la carte, bulk cooking, vegetarian options, special diets, and function catering, ensuring excellent presentation, portioning, and timeliness.
Lead and support the catering team by directing caregivers, acting as a role model for safe food handling, and assisting with training to enhance food quality, service, and presentation standards.
Maintain full compliance with Australian Standards, legislative requirements, HDWA regulations, and the Hospital Food Safety Management Plan (GMP), including accurate completion of all food safety documentation.
Contribute to efficient kitchen operations by using equipment competently, supporting waste minimisation initiatives, assisting with cleaning protocols, and ensuring adherence to infection control guidelines.
Actively participate in a collaborative team environment by supporting quality improvement activities, attending training, identifying risks or hazards, and continuously developing skills and knowledge.
You will hold a Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery (Chef trade qualification) and have good knowledge in safe food handling, including HACCP standards, with experience in a reputable hospitality or catering environment. You are confident working across cook chill and cook fresh systems to deliver high-quality meals.
Strong communication skills and the ability to lead and motivate others are essential, along with a solid understanding of normal, modified, and allergy-specific diets, including thickened fluids, ensuring safe and high-quality meal delivery for diverse patient needs.

Salary: $71,568 to $73,344 per annum (pro rata for part-time) plus 12% superannuation
