Chief Executive Officer (Director) - South West Development Commission

  • Salary in the range of $215,508- $250,335pa plus super and vehicle
Organisational Overview

The South West Development Commission (the Commission) is a statutory authority of the Western Australian Government. One of nine regional development commissions established under the Regional Development Commissions Act 1993 (the Act), the Commission is governed by a Board comprised of community members, local government nominations and ministerial appointments. It is responsible to the Minister for Regional Development in meeting the requirements of the Act.

The Commission’s function is to promote, facilitate and monitor development in the region. This includes:

• developing and broadening the economic base

• identifying infrastructure and service needs

• maximising job creation and improving career opportunities

• identifying opportunities to improve liveability

• providing information and advice.


The Commission’s main office is located in Bunbury, with branches in Collie and Manjimup, Western Australia.


Primary purpose of the role

The Chief Executive Officer (titled Director) provides inspiring and empowering leadership to the Commission, creates an environment that supports success, implements the Commission’s strategic direction, and envisions and effectively plans for the future.

The CEO is responsible for shaping and delivering agency corporate strategy and governance that deliver key government services, understanding the regional context and leveraging this understanding to achieve core strategic priorities, making business decisions in the interests of the Commission and the wider sector, and achieving results that benefit, stakeholders (including the Board and Ministers), the region’s businesses and the community.

To drive achievement of the Commission’s strategic goals, excellent relationship building skills at an agency and community level, demonstrated commercial acumen and an outstanding ability to represent the Commission are essential.

SELECTION CRITERIA: 

The role of the CEO is critical to organisational and sector-wide performance. The selection process includes assessing applicants against the following the expected behaviours in the context of the requirements of this position.

Lead adaptively – You demonstrate a willingness and ability to learn and apply your knowledge, skills and experiences in new and challenging situations.
