Job Description - Child Care Educator

  • Make an impact supporting our staff and their families at the Austin Child Care Centre

  • Full time, fixed term (12 months parental leave cover), working 38 hours per week.

About the Child Care Centre 


Located in a renovated brick gatekeeper’s lodge built in 1871 on the grounds of the Austin Hospital, the Austin Child Care Centre is a non-profit centre providing childcare services to support our wonderful healthcare workers. We are registered for 70 EFT places, caring for preschool children from 4 months to school entry age. We have nature-based play spaces designed to support healthy growth and development, and our children are involved in many of the hospitals’ events, including commemorative services and cultural days, as well as creating many works of art displayed around the hospital.  


 


The centre offers a friendly and supportive environment, where we genuinely enjoy working together. Our diverse team has low turnover and high longevity of tenure. We enjoy sharing our cultures with each other, the children and their families, and we fully support a diverse environment. 


 


About the role 


As an Early Childhood Educator, you will support the team/room educators to develop a fun, educational and engaging program for our children. You’ll also support the Centre in evaluating the quality of the program to ensure it is aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) and the National Quality Framework (NQF). 


 


A regular day will see you:   



  • Actively support every child to participate in the program and ensure that it promotes children’s agency, choices and influence.  

  • Develop and maintain respectful, supportive, collaborative and responsive relationships with children and their families.  

  • Deliver effective and valuable documentation of children’s learning in accordance with the Centre philosophy and the Learning Outcomes (EYLF and VEYLDF).  

  • Ensure all practices are in accordance with the NQS and reflect the philosophy, policies and procedures of the service. 

  • Provide effective supervision in a safe and secure environment where children are able to learn, develop, explore and discover their capabilities.

  • Diploma of Early Childhood Education

  • Experience in planning, implementing, assessing and reviewing a high quality and diverse educational program based on appropriate curriculum frameworks and with reference to the NQS,

  • A demonstrated awareness of social, economic and cultural diversity and its impact on children and their families.  

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills at all levels.

  • A passion for working with children and building respectful, positive and trusted relationships with families.

  • A demonstrated understanding of child safety and the skills to identify, respond to and prevent child harm.
