Job Description - Claims Officer


At the NSW Department of Education, we educate and inspire lifelong learners – from early childhood, through schooling to vocational education and training.


 


 



  • 2 x Temporary Full-Time opportunities – up to 2 years within a vibrant and supportive team

  • Located in Parramatta with flexible working arrangements available

  • Remuneration of $84,659 - $92,701 p.a. plus superannuation and annual leave loading


 


 


About the role


As a Claims Officer, you will ensure employees receive the workers compensation benefits they’re entitled to under the current workers compensation legislation.


 


You’ll take ownership of administering workers compensation leave and payments through the department’s payroll system, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and a seamless experience for injured employees. Beyond the technical work, you’ll play an important part in their recovery journey by providing compassionate and proactive case management support.


 


You’ll also manage a portfolio of low‑risk workplace injury cases, guiding employees through the process with clarity and care while helping the organisation meet its obligations and maintain a safe, supportive workplace.

About you



  • Confidence in providing advice and support to employees recovering from workplace injuries, providing clear guidance that aligns with legislation, operational requirements and recovery‑at‑work plans.

  • Strong analytical skills to reviewing and reconciling workers compensation leave, including complex claims that require careful interpretation of award provisions.

  • Proficient in maintaining high‑quality data practices, ensuring all information recorded, updated or retrieved from electronic systems is accurate, compliant and accessible.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to provide high-level customer service in a high-volume working environment.

Note: the selection process will include a range of assessment techniques to assist in determining your suitability for the role. Successful candidates will be required to undertake pre-employment screening for this role which includes a National Criminal History Check.


 


As a condition of employment, successful candidates not currently employed by the Department must provide a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance number. Renewal is not required after the WWCC expires, as long as you remain in a non–child-related role. Employer obligations only apply while the WWCC is valid.


 


Candidates must have Australian work rights (citizens, permanent residents, New Zealand citizens or a valid work visa). Ongoing (permanent) roles are open to Australian citizens and permanent residents and New Zealand citizens, while temporary roles welcome applicants with a visa.
