    The Role

    The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) (Drug & Alcohol) role at the Immigration Detention Facilities is an integral part of IHMS’ Drug and Alcohol team. Key responsibilities:

  • Clinical leadership and ongoing improvement and review of triage, treatment planning for patients on opiod substitution treatment program (OSTP)
  • Provide clinical resource and advanced support and liaison at a local level on matters relating to D&A
  • Facilitation and liaison with local and external stakeholders/service providers to ensure continuity of care
  • Specialist assessment and management of withdrawal states, pharmacotherapies, intoxication and overdose states
  • Provide assistance to local and centralised leadership teams to ensure smooth operation of D&A related care and services

  • Requirements

  • Current AHPRA Registration as a Div. 1 Registered Nurse
  • Minimum of 3 years recent clinical experience working with people with drug and alcohol use disorders in a D&A setting, including experience in opiod substitution treatment
  • Advanced clinical assessment skills and management of alcohol and drug issues
  • Good knowledge of harm minimisation principles
  • Current BLS or First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain it)
