  • Fixed Term (12 Months) - Full Time, 1.0 EFT

About the team

The National Trauma Research Institute

With a mission to improve care of the injured, the National Trauma Research Institute (NTRI) was established in 2003 by partnership institutions Alfred Health and Monash University, Central Clinical School. The NTRI is located with the Alfred Medical Research and Education Precinct (AMREP) at The Alfred campus in Melbourne, Australia and supports the Alfred Trauma Services clinical unit’s education and research activities. The NTRI & Alfred Trauma Service work with organisations nationally and internationally to prevent and reduce the impact of severe injury by integrating research, education, innovation and trauma system development to improve clinical care and outcomes.

About the role

As a member of a research team, the Clinical Research Assistant (CRA) will have responsibility for the delivery of direct and indirect care, study related activities and associated data collection for concurrent research studies undertaken in the department. In the absence of the Principal Investigator, the CRA may take charge of individual clinical trials to ensure their effective operation. Key staff interactions include – nursing staff, clinicians, management, research office as appropriate, pharmacy, health & safety and risk management. The CRA is not responsible for managing the budget but needs to be aware of the resources available and the need to remain within budget parameters. The exact dimensions of the numbers and types of studies may vary in accordance with the dynamic nature of the clinical research unit. In addition, this role will provide research administrative support at the NTRI which may include drafting letters/briefs, preparing proposals and project tracking.

Skills & Experience

  • Registered nurse with a minimum of 3 years post graduate nursing or masters in relevant health field demonstrating the appropriate competencies and skills for the job or a professional experience in assisting/coordinating clinical trials with appropriate research background.
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice guidelines.
  • Ability to multitask and demonstrate great self-initiative.
  • Exceptional professional integrity and accountability.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Outstanding organisational skills indicating the ability to perform and prioritise multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
