Cloud Engineer (Remote in AU)

This role is part of a small, fully remote engineering team, reporting to the Team Lead with a light-touch structure. You'll have real autonomy, own your outcomes, and be trusted to deliver.

This is a senior backend engineering role with ownership of our DevSecOps and platform reliability capability.

You'll spend the majority of your time contributing to product development, while dedicating part of your week to the cloud infrastructure, security, automation and reliability foundations that enable the team to ship safely. You'll be our go-to engineer for AWS, CI/CD and DevSecOps.

In this role, you'll:

• Design, build and ship product features using our product and coding agents
• Own and continuously improve our AWS infrastructure across compute, networking, storage and IAM
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
• Manage and evolve our infrastructure through AWS CDK
• Embed security controls into the software delivery lifecycle, including vulnerability scanning, secrets management, access control and audit logging
• Build and operate services using technologies including Lambda, DynamoDB, ECS Fargate, EventBridge and Aurora PostgreSQL
• Own observability and production reliability using CloudWatch, Sentry and OpenTelemetry
• Lead troubleshooting and incident response across application and infrastructure layers, including root-cause analysis and prevention, leveraging Linear or other automation solutions
• Establish practical AWS, security and reliability standards across the engineering team
• Monitor and improve platform reliability, capacity and performance
• Balance security, reliability, cost and delivery speed pragmatically
• Share your expertise and help strengthen cloud, DevSecOps and reliability practices across the engineering team

What We're Looking For

1. Deep hands-on cloud expertise. You've built and operated production-grade cloud infrastructure yourself.
2. A security-first mindset. You think about IAM, secrets, and vulnerabilities as part of the build, not an afterthought bolted on at the end.

What we need from you

• Demonstrated senior-level experience as a backend/software engineer, with significant hands-on DevOps and SecOps responsibility
• Strong production experience with AWS, including Lambda, DynamoDB, ECS Fargate and EventBridge
• Hands-on production experience using AWS CDK for Infrastructure-as-Code
• Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
• Experience working with PostgreSQL in production environments
• Observability experience, including CloudWatch and tools such as Sentry and OpenTelemetry
• Strong security engineering practices across vulnerability management, secrets management, IAM/access control and audit/compliance logging
• Experience with containerisation and orchestration, including Docker and ECS Fargate
• Incident response and troubleshooting skills across distributed systems
• Ability to operate autonomously at a senior level and set technical direction with minimal oversight
