Background

This program of work is delivering a strategic data and analytics platform for the Defence PROTECTED and SECRET environments along with data analytics, data cataloguing and data quality management services to enable self-service business intelligence and analytics on priority datasets. This will enable Defence to harness its data to improve speed and accuracy for strategic decision-making.

This division within Defence has a requirement for Services to support its needs integrated and interoperable systems to manage and exploit data as a strategic asset and gain an asymmetrical advantage against potential adversaries. This digital transformation relies on secure, timely, credible, traceable and relevant data to support processes, measure performance and inform decisions. Trusted data is needed to manage and report on Defence business functions.

You will need to have experience in the following areas to be successful

• Proficiency in network and hardware technologies
• Proficiency in shared storage technologies
• Knowledge of data privacy laws
• Proficiency with Active Directory Domain Services
• Knowledge of setting up and managing private cloud computing services like platform as a service (PaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS)
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and self-hosted Azure DevOps tool
• Knowledge of continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD)
• Set up and configure servers and virtual machines
• Experience in core infrastructure technologies e.g. Virtualisation - vmware, OS - Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Windows Server, AD Domain Services, Logging and Monitoring – splunk, prmetheus, Azure DevOps Server, Infrastructure as Code – terraform, ansible etc., Containerisation – Red Hat Open Shift, Docker
• Manage on-premises and cloud storage systems
• Troubleshoot problems associated with infrastructures and systems
• Maintain IT infrastructure best practices and follow the necessary security regulations
• Communicate with partners and vendors on behalf of the department
• Recommend infrastructure upgrades for optimal performance to the management
