Commercial Accountant - P&L ownership, stakeholder focus & hybrid work Your new company An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Commercial Accountant to join a large, globally-backed organisation supporting a portfolio of high-value contracts across a dynamic, operationally driven environment. This role sits within a high-performing commercial finance team and offers strong exposure to full P&L ownership, business partnering and contract performance, making it ideal for a technically strong accountant looking to step into a more commercial role. This position is full-time and permanent, although they could also consider a temp or temp to perm option for someone who is immediately available to onboard asap.
Your new role Reporting into the Commercial Business Partner, you will take ownership of a portfolio of contracts, providing both technical accounting expertise and commercial insight. Key responsibilities include:
Full P&L ownership across a designated portfolio
End-to-end month-end reporting (day 5 close), including deep-dive analysis and commentary
Preparation of budgets and forecasts, including rolling 90-day forecasts and multiple re-forecasts annually
Providing actionable insights to improve contract performance and profitability
Managing and overseeing billing processes and revenue recognition
Partnering with operational stakeholders, including area managers and senior leadership
Leading meetings, developing action plans, and driving accountability across your portfolio
Supporting continuous improvement across processes and reporting
What you'll need to succeed
Degree qualified in Accounting or Finance, with CA/CPA qualifications (or working towards)
Strong technical accounting foundation, combined with commercial/business partnering exposure
Proven experience managing or contributing to full P&L performance
Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to perform detailed month-end deep dives
Proven ability (or clear potential) to build strong stakeholder relationships, working closely with operational teams to influence performance
Confident communicator, able to lead meetings and engage effectively with senior stakeholders
Proactive mindset - someone who asks questions, seeks support and takes ownership
Ability to manage a high-volume workload across multiple contracts
