Job Description

The Anglo Steelmaking Coal (SMC) Supply Chain team is responsible for the end-to-end management of all procurement activities for SMC, including Category Management, Sourcing & Contracts, Project Procurement and Purchasing.  The team works with SMC corporate and site stakeholders to implement and manage performance of contracts and suppliers, grow the host community supply base and ensure effective supply of goods and services required for operation.

This role is ideal for an early-career procurement professional or someone from a finance/accounts payable background within mining who is looking to step into a commercial or supply chain career pathway.

As a Commercial Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting end‑to‑end procurement and contract management activities across several key service categories. These may include labour hire, underground mining services, civil & construction services, drilling & exploration and / or maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) services and goods.

Key responsibilities:

  • Negotiate competitive rates and commercial terms
  • Draft contract documentation from existing contract templates, including scopes of work, rates, special conditions and departures
  • Prepare contracts for approval and execute them in line with governance requirements
  • Conduct post‑award contract management, including amendments, rate reviews and supplier benchmarking
  • Oversee contract lifecycle timelines and implement actions to maintain continuous supply availability
  • Actively track commercial dashboard KPIs (e.g., lead times, contract coverage, category/supplier/ contractor performance etc) and proactively address and escalate issues
  • Build strong internal stakeholder relationships across operations and supply chain
  • Support improvement initiatives that enhance commercial outcomes
  • Contribute to maintaining responsible sourcing and compliance with global commercial standards

Qualifications

You will succeed in this role if you bring a proactive mindset, strong attention to detail and the ability to balance stakeholder needs with sound commercial judgement.

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables)
  • Strong written skills for preparing contracts and commercial documentation
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capability
  • Experience across tactical procurement activities, particularly working with rate cards and service‑based categories, will be highly regarded
  • Experience with SAP ERP or Ariba is desirable
  • A tertiary qualification in Business, Law or related discipline is preferred but not essential

Additional Information

  • Permanent full-time role
  • Centrally located in our Brisbane CBD Corporate Office, close to train, bus and ferry connections
  • Competitive salary + 12% superannuation
  • Hybrid working – 3 days office / 2 days WFH
  • Paid parental leave for both primary and secondary carers
  • Annual incentive program
