The position has genuine commercial accountability, including cost forecasting, variations, contractual correspondence and ensuring project performance remains aligned with the original tender.
You’ll Know How the Work Is Built
This is an important part of the role.
We’re not looking for someone who manages projects purely from a spreadsheet.
You’ll need a sound practical understanding of commercial landscape construction and be comfortable providing technical direction to site teams and subcontractors.
Your knowledge should extend across areas such as:
- Paving
- Concrete formwork and placement
- Retaining walls
- Blockwork
- Fencing
- Irrigation and drainage
- Setout, levels and falls
- Soil preparation
- Planting
- Turf establishment
- Construction sequencing and methodology
You’ll be able to interpret drawings and specifications, identify buildability issues and help resolve technical problems before they impact the program, budget or finished product.
Commercial & Contract Management
Alongside the construction knowledge, you’ll need to be commercially capable.
You’ll be responsible for monitoring project costs against approved budgets, forecasting, reviewing subcontractor and supplier costs and identifying opportunities to protect project margins.
You’ll also manage:
- RFIs
- Extension of Time submissions
- Variation claims
- Progress claims
- Contractual correspondence
- Delays and program risks
- Project records and reporting
You’ll be expected to identify issues early rather than waiting until they become problems and work closely with senior management and site teams to keep projects commercially and operationally on track.
