Job Description - Communications Officer

Communications Officer – Full time – Brisbane

The Australian Koala Foundation


The Australian Koala Foundation (AKF) is seeking an enthusiastic Communications Officer to join our team in-house at the AKF headquarters in Brisbane. 

You will be a communications all-rounder; generating and distributing content across the AKF’s existing channels, sustaining marketing campaigns, communicating with sponsors, providing content for Save the Koala Month, and ensuring messaging aligns with the AKF's mission and vision.

Your focus will be on positive interactions with the AKF stakeholders whilst also being required to work closely with external PR partners and assist them in ensuring the AKF’s communication strategies are enacted.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Understand the communication requirements of the AKF stakeholders and deliver accordingly.
  • Compile newsletters and EDMs that observe the AKF’s established tone.
  • Ensure distribution of content across communication channels is maintained according to existing schedules.
  • Work with the AKF's marketing teams to provide consistent messaging and branding.
  • Manage the AKF’s social media accounts and ensure they have maximum reach whilst not compromising the AKF values.
  • Provide social media content that supplements messaging distributed by alternative channels. 
  • Be a communication interface between external the AKF’s public relations partners and internal operations.
  • Take instruction from public relations partners and assist in the delivery of their schedules.
  • Work alongside internal teams in the implementation of the AKF’s projects.
  • Understand the AKF’s various functions and work with all entities to identify fresh publicity opportunities.
  • General office duties.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or related field.
  • Creative, innovative, and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent work ethic.
  • Lack of qualifications could be welcomed by the AKF but applicant will need strong verbal and written communication skills with experience compiling and distributing newsletters, generating publicity content, and other communications materials.
  • A passion for conservation and animal welfare is highly desirable but not essential.
