The role of Community Development and Project Officer

 

This role is designed to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations throughout Australia to implement financial education and wellbeing programs.

The primary focus is on delivering the Foundation’s award-winning financial education program, My Money Dream, in both face-to-face and online (webinar) formats. 

As well as working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, you will work with Indigenous community members through the onboarding, learning and follow-up process of our online financial education program.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

Duties and responsibilities

 

Community Development

  • Develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with FNF’s nationwide network of community partners and project stakeholders.
  • Supporting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to build financial skills by providing free access to My Money Dream and information about the Foundation’s other financial education resources.
  • A basic understanding and comfortable talking about money and financial products is ideal, though training will be provided.
  • Travel to deliver training with communities in a face-to-face format and build community partner relationships in urban, regional and remote Indigenous communities.
  • Undertake community development tasks for FNF’s other projects from time to time as required.

 

Project Management

  • Work collaboratively within the projects team to plan, manage and deliver financial education projects including regular reporting to the COO and CEO.
  • Deliver FNF’s money management program to Indigenous community members and support staff, via both webinar sessions and face to face.
  • Assist with the coordination of outreach events in urban, regional and remote communities as required.
  • Collaboratively within the projects team, coordinate the distribution, onboarding, training support and impact measurement of Indigenous participants in FNF’s My Money Dream training program.
  • With the support of FNF’s marketing team, contribute to distribution campaigns through online channels using a range of social media and culturally relevant branding to reach people across urban, regional and remote Indigenous communities.
  • Undertake project management tasks for FNF’s other projects from time to time as required.

 

Content adaption

  • Contribute to the coordination of educational resources such as fact sheets, posters, infographics and videos, drawing on the money skills content in the online training program.
  • On occasion, assist with sourcing and coordinating guest presenters from community for webinars and short videos to form engaging digital content.

 

Communications & participant engagement

  • On occasion, develop content for EDMs to communicate the benefits of the FNF’s programs and encourage participation in the online training modules.
  • Assist with the facilitation of participant surveys and obtaining feedback about the impacts of the program.

  

Work Health & Safety  

  • Ensure reasonable care for your own safety and that of the environment you are working in, including taking care of other workers who may be affected by your acts or omissions at any workplace.
  • Workplace Safety Check: if working from home, the workplace safety check must be completed to ensure a safe and efficient workplace with safe egress and free from hazards.

 

Requirements

 

Experience, Skills and Attributes

  • Previous experience working with Aboriginal communities and presenting face to face is an essential part of the role.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills to engage, negotiate, facilitate and liaise with community, stakeholders and colleagues at all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Attention to detail: Excellent attention to detail and accuracy and a passion for getting things done.
  • Autonomy and organisation Skills: Ability to work autonomously is paramount. You will receive guidance and support but will need to independently plan and prioritise multiple and competing demands.
  • Digital communications: Previous experience engaging and communicating with stakeholders via online channels such as Facebook and EDMs is essential to the role.

 

Education

  • Equivalent level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training or professional accreditation, across community development discipline.

 

Travel

  • The willingness and flexibility for occasional travel is essential to this role.
  • The ability to travel for up to 1 week at a time, occasionally on weekends.

 

Compliance

  • A Working with Children Check is a mandatory requirement (can be obtained after commencement of the role).
  • As this is primarily a work from home role, you will need to have access to a safe and confidential workspace and have a reliable internet connection.
