Job Description - Community Options Program Manager

About us:

Orana has played a vital role in supporting South Australians with disability for over 70 years. We deliver employment, housing, training, short term accommodation, skill development programs and life skills support to over 650 South Australians with disability.

About the role:

The Community Options Program Manager oversees the daily operations of Orana's Community Options programs, including Life Education, Western Metro Community Options, Dance Down, Getaways, Club Slick, and Club Strike, and reports to the Operations Manager Community Options.

 

Operational responsibilities include:

  • Initiating and developing program concepts
  • Programming and planning of group-based recreation and individual skill development activities and programs in alignment with the clients’ goals and interests
  • Developing and managing program budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources. 
  • Rostering and supervision of staff
  • Liaison with community stakeholders

About you:

To be successful in the role, you will be an organised self-starter who will use your previous experience in program development or program management to ensure existing programs are relevant and effective, whilst planning and implementing new, innovative programs. 

You will have proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise workload and work to budgets and deadlines. You will also be a proven people leader and be able to mentor, coach and develop a high functioning team across our community options programs. 

The position requires innovative thinking and creativity to plan and package our program strategy. You will have a strong understanding of all aspects of the NDIS and be able to manage operational budgets in line with the strategic aims and objectives of the business.

Above all, you will have an empathetic approach in your role and build trust with all stakeholders, both internal and external.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Design and implement program activities for clients that align with the individual’s goals, focused on skill development and personal interests.
  • Collaborate with participants, families, and stakeholders to assess needs and plan program activities.
  • Develop contemporary leisure and recreation models and incorporate these practices into programs.
  • Actively promote Orana and the programs to attract future staff and clients to enable viability and growth of programs. 
  • Liaise with relevant community members, groups, and organisations to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships, to increase opportunities available to Orana’s clients, and promote inclusion of people with disability.
  • Understand the legislation regarding the use of regulated restrictive practice and positive behaviour and mentor staff to work within these guidelines.
  • Ensure all programs are scheduled at least 12 weeks in advance with staff, clients and stakeholders receiving communication of the programs.
  • Complete NDIS progress reports in a timely and professional manner.

 

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Disability or similar higher-level qualification (approved by CEO). 
  • Excellent communication skills that enable a positive working relationship with all staff and stakeholders, including excellent interpersonal, consultation and negotiation skills. 
  • Demonstrated experience in leading, managing and developing teams in a complex work environment, displaying personal drive and integrity. 
  • A professional working knowledge of the NDIS Practice Standards and Quality Indicators. 
  • Extensive knowledge or experience in the provision of support services to people with a disability with diverse abilities from diverse cultures and nationalities. 
  • Understanding and practical application of issues relating to quality service, and a commitment to the continuous improvement of service delivery. 
  • Ability to successfully manage risks associated with client care and safety, and workplace health and safety. 
  • Hold a current NDIS Worker Check or equivalent. 
  • Hold a National Police Check
