 Role Purpose  

The Component Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and integration of specific system components within a larger system architecture. This role involves translating high-level system requirements into detailed component specifications, ensuring compliance with design standards, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals. The Component Systems Engineer plays a key role in ensuring that individual components meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements while aligning with the overall system architecture.

Key Responsibilities

Component Design and Development

  • Design and develop specific system components based on high-level system requirements and specifications.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers, software engineers, and other stakeholders to create integrated systems.
  • Ensure components are designed to meet performance, reliability, and safety criteria.

Requirements and Specifications

  • Translate system-level requirements into detailed component specifications.
  • Work with Systems Engineers and domain engineering teams to ensure alignment between component requirements and overall system architecture.

Integration and Testing

  • Develop test plans and procedures to validate electronic systems and software.
  • Conduct testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of electronic systems and software.
  • Ensure compatibility and interoperability between different components and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Coordinate with Integration & Test teams to ensure proper integration of components into the system.

Project Management

  • Participate in project planning, including defining project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members throughout the project lifecycle.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and software engineering, to ensure seamless component integration.
  • Communicate technical information clearly and effectively to various stakeholders, including management, customers, and suppliers.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Ensure components comply with industry standards and regulations.
  • Participate in design reviews and risk assessments to ensure the safety and reliability of components.

Documentation and Support

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including component specifications, design documents, and test reports.
  • Provide technical support to internal teams and external customers as needed.

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance component design and development processes.
  • Identify and implement best practices to improve quality, efficiency, and performance.


Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • An Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electronics, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in a System Engineering role involving software, and/or electrical engineering domains.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in component design, development, or systems engineering.
  • Experience with programming languages commonly used in embedded systems (e.g., C, C++) and/or experience with power electronics and/or experience with component testing and validation processes.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in project management and coordination.
Additional Experience
  • Experience in automotive, aerospace, robotics or industrial systems.
  • Knowledge of simulation and analysis tools for component design, especially in power electronics.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and Lean practices.
  • Certification / Qualifications relating to Systems Engineering.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Model Based System Engineering experience will be highly regarded.
  • Experience will System Requirement management tool such as Polarion, DOORS or Jama.
  • Experience in Product Lifecycle Management tools such as Teamcenter.
  • Execution experience in electric mobility technologies will be highly regarded.
  • Experience working closely with electrical and software engineering teams on safety critical systems with human interaction. Understanding of the standards of functional safety ISO26262, IEC61508 and/or ASIL.
