Your Role at St John of God Midland Hospital
You will deliver personalised, effective, and timely clinical care to both admitted and referred patients, with a strong focus on Emergency Department mental health leadership and inpatient team responsibilities.
As a permanent full-time Consultant, you will provide specialist medical services within a recovery-oriented framework, ensuring care aligns with the principles outlined in the National Framework for Recovery-Oriented Mental Health Services. You will play a key role in supporting patient-centred outcomes while maintaining high standards of clinical excellence.
You will work collaboratively as a valued member of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to a positive and supportive workplace culture.
The Position
Provides clinical leadership to all caregivers providing care to mental health patients
Ensures efficient use of human and physical resources so that the specialty operates within the allocated financial, bed and clinic resources.
Participates in training and other educational activities ensuring that the specialty meets the accreditation standards of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and the Postgraduate Medical Council of WA
Works as a Consultant to provide specialist medical services to mental health patients within a Recovery oriented framework, adhering to principles elucidated in the National Framework for Recovery oriented Mental Health Services.
Participates as a valued team member promoting and contributing to a supportive team environment. Actively participates in the clinical duties of the Department including the Consultant after-hours and weekend roster, providing expert services at the Hospital.
Familiarises themselves with their legal requirements of the prevailing Mental Health legislation of the state and operates within its parameters.
Ensures completion of discharge summaries, coding and reporting requirements are met in a timely and accurate manner.
Participates in the ECT treatment roster
Awareness of customs and community expectations when considering how best to coordinate care for Aboriginal patients
Participates in the on-call rosters for consultants
You must hold current registration with the Medical Board of Australia and possess Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), or an equivalent recognised qualification.
You will bring substantial clinical experience in managing high-acuity patients within complex hospital environments, demonstrating advanced clinical judgement and the ability to deliver safe, high-quality care under pressure. A proven capacity to implement and sustain improvements that enhance patient safety and reduce unnecessary delays in patient management is essential.
