Job Description - Contracts Officer

Role type: Full Time; Continuing
Department: Chief Operating Officer Portfolio; Research, Innovation and Commercialisation

Salary: UoM 6 - $100,547 - $109,163 p.a. plus 17% super

Your next career opportunity 

As a Contracts Officer at the University of Melbourne, you'll play a crucial role in facilitating research and commercial agreements. You'll have the opportunity to apply your  expertise to review, negotiate, and finalise contracts, while building strong relationships with researchers and stakeholders. This role offers you the chance to contribute directly to the university's research initiatives in a collaborative and dynamic environment.

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Review and Negotiate Agreements: Analyse, advise on, and finalise research and commercial engagement agreements, seeking legal advice when necessary.
  • Build Strong Relationships: Cultivate productive working relationships with researchers, RIC staff, and external customers to ensure smooth business operations.
  • Provide Contract Support: Process contracts, report on their status, and support team members as required.
  • Mentor Staff: Supervise, mentor and/or support and/or provide training to Contracts and Assistant Contracts officers and members of the Grants teams, contributing to their skill development.
     

You may be a great fit if: 

You are a law graduate with experience in drafting and negotiating contracts, possessing excellent communication skills and the ability to apply sound judgment in commercial contracting scenarios.

You may also: 

  • Have a law degree with demonstrated experience in commercial or government contracting.
  • Possess a good working knowledge of contract law, commercial contracting, and intellectual property.
  • Demonstrate strong time management and organisational skills.
  • Have the ability to work effectively as part of a team and support colleagues.
  • Have the ability to explain and communicate complex concepts in plain language
  • Show commitment to providing high-quality, responsive client service.
