Job Description - Data Governance and Privacy Officer



  • Ongoing, full time role

  • CBD location, with flexible, hybrid working

  • $110,000 to $120,000 base + salary packaging + super + 5 weeks annual leave


 


The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac) is a Victorian public health service and a world-leading comprehensive cancer centre seeking to excel across all spheres of clinical care, research and education. We are home to the largest cancer research enterprise in Australia and provide treatment to around 40,000 people with cancer each year. About the role


 


The Data Governance & Privacy Officer will be responsible for uplifting data governance maturity at Peter Mac ensuring adherence to data security and privacy requirements.


 


Key responsibilities include:



  • Finalise and implement the Data Governance framework

  • Developing and updating policies and procedures

  • Supporting organisation wide education and deployment

  • Champion change for data governance and privacy

  • Mentoring teams to build a culture of data accountability

  • Provide expert and timely advice on privacy

  • Provide expert guidance on data risk management and controls

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to drive data governance initiatives

  • Ensure Peter Mac aligns to industry and government standards and guidelines, including regulatory requirements

  • Support implementation of technologies to support data governance and privacy.


 


About you


 


You will have strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work independantly and confidently within a multidisciplinary team.


 


You'll bring with you:



  • A relevant tertiary qualification and suitable experience working in data governance and privacy

  • Experience in implementing organisation wide data governance and privacy program

  • Experience with designing frameworks, policies, processes and procedures related to Data Governance and privacy

  • Experience managing data throughout its lifecycle

  • Experience leading and mentoring teams to build a culture of data accountability

  • Ability to interpret and apply data governance and management legislation such as Health Services Act 1988 (Vic), Health Records Act 2001 (Vic) AND Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic), Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), GDPR, HIPAA

  • Knowledge of industry compliance requirements related to data security and privacy such as ISO27001, DMBOK

  • Strong foundation in project management and delivery

Key Accountabilities

1. Data Governance Framework

Maintain a Data Governance framework aligned to organisation strategies, ensuring it complies with legal, regulatory, contractual and data governance boundaries around data collection, use, security and disclosure

Update organisation wide policies and procedures in collaboration with key stakeholders

Implement and maintain appropriate governance groups for the implementation of the Data Governance framework

Provide training material and conduct training activities to embed data governance processes

Review, lead and update with key stakeholder, any necessary changes to data governance frameworks, policies, procedures, controls and standards, to align with regulatory requirements


2. Data Governance Implementation

Maintain governance working groups to address specific area of data governance such as AI, Data Management and Analytics Platform

Lead ongoing initiatives to embed data governance across the organisation

Collaborate with key areas to support development and implementation of standard and controls related to data governance and privacy

Provide expert advice, guidance and support for data related projects

Report progress and compliance to the Data Governance Framework

Investigate and recommend technologies to support data governance and privacy

Conduct periodic audits against industry standards and report outcomes

Collaboratively work with key stakeholders to implement ongoing improvements

Identify and implement opportunities for improving capability and services

Build up a knowledge base of information that is shared within the broader team
