Your new role As the Data Lead, you will drive the end-to-end data strategy for the council, establishing trusted, high-quality, and governed data to support operational excellence and evidence-based decision-making. This hands-on leadership role will see you:
Define and implement an enterprise-wide data strategy, governance framework, and reporting standards.
Lead data discovery, mapping, lineage documentation, and cataloguing across all council systems.
Develop and embed data governance practices, including ownership, stewardship, definitions, and policies.
Oversee data quality management, including profiling, cleansing, de-duplication, and root-cause remediation.
Design and deliver enterprise data platforms, governed datasets, and consistent operational and executive dashboards.
Support data migration activities for digital transformation programs, ensuring accuracy, continuity, and risk management.
Build capability by mentoring data stewards, analysts, and operational teams to uplift data literacy and maturity.
What you'll need to succeed To excel in this role, you will bring:
Experience in data governance, data management, analytics, or related disciplines.
Strong hands-on expertise with data discovery, source mapping, lineage, and quality improvement.
Proven experience designing and implementing data governance frameworks in complex organisations.
Advanced Power BI skills, including data modelling and report creation.
Experience developing enterprise data platforms or warehouses and supporting system integrations or migrations.
Solid understanding of data privacy, security, and public-sector records management requirements.
Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to influence without direct authority.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in IT, Data Analytics, Information Management, or similar.
Desirable certifications: Data Governance, Data Management, or Microsoft BI/Data certifications.
