Data Scientist - Internal Audit

Join Group Internal Audit to build a greenfield data, analytics and AI capability from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to shape how audit uses data science, AI agents and modern analytics to deliver sharper risk insight across one of Australia and New Zealand’s largest insurers — while partnering with senior stakeholders across data, technology and the business.

This is a permanent full-time opportunity based in Gadigal Country (Sydney).

What You'll Do 

• Design and deploy AI-enabled audit tools, data pipelines and curated datasets that improve risk identification, testing and insight generation.

• Apply modern data science, semantic search and agentic AI techniques to solve real audit problems across enterprise data, technology and transformation domains.

• Build solutions with strong governance, security and control discipline, aligned to IAG frameworks and relevant prudential expectations.

• Partner with audit teams to bring data, analytics and AI into reviews, from planning through to reporting.

• Create decision-useful analysis, visualisations and insights that influence senior stakeholders across IAG’s data and technology landscape.

• Help uplift audit methodology and team capability in analytics, automation and AI-enabled assurance.

What you’ll bring

• Deep experience in data science, analytics engineering or AI solution delivery in a complex enterprise environment.


• A track record of building scalable data or AI capability from the ground up, with strong judgment on governance, risk and control.


• Strong stakeholder skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and translate technical concepts into practical business insight.


• Strong hands-on capability across cloud data platforms, SQL, data pipelines and enterprise-scale analytics (e.g. Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery, Vertex AI / Gemini models, Copilot Agent Builder)

Also valuable

• Experience in internal audit, technology risk, data governance, and regulated financial services.


• Confidence working across ambiguity, balancing innovation with practical delivery and control expectations.
