Data Security Lead - Purview

Role Description 

The Data Security Lead is responsible for the design, implementation, and governance of Microsoft Purview capabilities across the client environment. The role leads the definition and deployment of data classification, information protection, records management, data lifecycle management, compliance controls, and information governance policies to support client security, regulatory, and operational requirements. 

The Data Security Lead works closely with security, compliance, information management, and business stakeholders to ensure Microsoft Purview capabilities are appropriately designed, configured, and integrated within the broader Microsoft 365 solution. The role is also responsible for ensuring alignment with client information governance requirements, records management obligations, and security policies. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Lead the design and implementation of Microsoft Purview capabilities. 

• Define data classification, sensitivity labelling, and information protection strategies. 

• Design retention, records management, disposition, and information lifecycle controls. 

• Configure and govern Microsoft Purview compliance and risk management capabilities. 

• Support implementation of Information Asset Management and Data Governance requirements. 

• Define metadata, taxonomy, and information governance approaches. 

• Work with security and architecture teams to align governance controls with client requirements. 

• Provide guidance on compliance, auditability, and records management outcomes. 

• Support design documentation, workshops, testing, and operational handover activities.

Preferred Experience 

• Designing and implementing Microsoft Purview solutions within large or regulated organisations. 

• Information governance, records management, and compliance programs. 

• Australian Government information security and recordkeeping requirements. 

• Microsoft 365 E5 Compliance and Security capabilities. 

• Experience working within highly secure or regulated environments.
