Location: Sydney, Australia (minimum of 3 days on-site)
Job Description:
Build, scale and administer Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL infrastructure with a focus on the performance, high availability and growth needs of the Client.
Improve and optimize database administration and management with coding and automation.
Support day-to-day operations and escalations of the database systems.
Contribute to meeting KPIs and SLAs through management of task queues.
Support large-scale global disaster recovery exercises while working closely with Client’s infrastructure, production and business teams.
Troubleshooting, fault-isolation and communication across the infrastructure, applications and business teams.
Participate in a rotational on-call schedule (follow-the-sun, including morning and afternoon handovers between locations).
Perform project work including but not limited to:
Provide operational support with Database Platform deployments (including DevOps)
Design, review, enhance and implement new database automations
Performance analysis of overall database environment
Troubleshoot and resolve issues escalated by the L1 team
Identify repeat issues and trends, work with Client's engineering teams to scope monitoring and/or automation to prevent or auto-remediate problems
Requirements:
Experience in providing DBA support for medium/large number of Microsoft SQL and MySQL databases.
Basic experience in other database engines is a plus.
Experience with:
AlwaysOn Clustering and Replication for SQL Server
InnoDB clustering and native replication for MySQL
Performance Tuning and troubleshooting
Backup, restoration and disaster recovery solutions
Security monitoring and hardening of databases
Experience with Linux and Windows Server operating systems.
Experience coding in at least two of the following languages: Python, PowerShell, PHP or Ruby.
Hands-on experience using Chef or Puppet.
Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong troubleshooting ability.
Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Be a creative problem solver with project planning skills and a desire to learn new technologies.
