The Opportunity

Due to the creation of an additional project delivery team at CPP, we are seeking an experienced Design Manager to be responsible for planning and managing renewable energy projects, to ensure timely completion and compliance with customer requirements.

As a senior member of the engineering team, you will have the technical and supervisory responsibility for the development of high quality, operationally efficient designs for a range of exciting high-voltage projects including renewable energy batteries, grid connections and substations.

Bringing your natural leadership skills, you will manage a team of experienced engineers and drafters to ensure delivery of key objectives is in line schedules and budgets.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Be the single point of contact on technical matters both internally to the Project Manager and the project delivery team
  • Effectively coordinate cross-discipline designs to ensure all interfaces are addressed and risks are appropriately managed (e.g., civil, structural, primary electrical, secondary systems, protection and SCADA)
  • Delivery of designs for one or more projects on schedule and within budget ensuring quality objectives are met
  • Resolve technical issues as they arise, working with the relevant project design team specialist(s) and the wider engineering group
  • Liaise with engineering management to ensure appropriate resources are available to the project to deliver within the required timeframes
  • Monitor project efficiency by reviewing performance against budget and implement actions to ensure targets are met

About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering
  • Experience at a senior level within a project-based electrical construction or utility company 
  • Experience carrying out designs for a transmission utility company will be highly regarded (Powerlink, Transgrid, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience in design and project management with large projects
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with a track record of leading multi-discipline teams
  • High degree of business acumen
  • Whilst not essential, experience in HV power systems projects would be highly regarded. Experience from the Telecommunications and Water industries will also be considered
