The Office of the Hon Tanya Plibersek MP is inviting applications for a Digital Adviser to join the team on a full-time ongoing basis. The role is to be primarily based in Sydney (preferred) with travel required to Canberra for Parliamentary sitting weeks. Relocation assistance and/or a Canberra workbase may be considered for the right candidate.

The role includes developing and maintaining content for our social media accounts, monitoring news and social media platforms, and some media assistant tasks. The ideal applicant is proficient in design, photography, videography, writing and editing, and has an interest in creative political communications. 

 

The key duties of the position are, but are not limited to:

  • Create and source content relevant to the Member’s interests and portfolio responsibilities.
  • Writing, editing and designing material for online and print.
  • Manage, maintain and grow social media channels.
  • Assist with media monitoring and media event handling.
  • Identifying campaign opportunities with a focus on the local community and the Member’s portfolio responsibilities.
  • Provide support on digital media strategy and communicate information to constituents and stakeholders.
  • Travel within the electorate and interstate travel will be required.
  • Capacity to work irregular hours (some evenings, early mornings and weekends) as required.
  • Other reasonable duties as required.

 

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:

  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated digital and social media skills including content creation, video editing, graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite/InDesign) and performance analysis.
  • Strong research, time management and organisational skills.
  • An understanding of Australia’s system of government and parliamentary processes.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and with minimum supervision.
  • Experience in social media management or similar is preferred.

 

Employment conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-23 which include:

  • A commencing salary between $71,245 and $83,179 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills. 
  • An additional optional allowance of up to $34,416 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work. 
  • Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements). 
  • An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable. 

 

A probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.

The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance at Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) level and comply with the Ministerial Staff Code of Conduct.
