Job Description - Digital Specialist (Social Media)

The Local Project is Australia, New Zealand, and North America's fastest growing design publication, celebrating extraordinary local design to our global community. With a focus on uncovering and understanding the impact that design makes on everyday experiences, The Local Project celebrates honest and human-centred design through premium print, digital, editorial, video and social content, with over 100,000,000+ impressions per month across our owned, operated and third-party platforms. In 2024 we launched The Local Production, a full-service specialist agency focused on creating content to truly elevate brands. Harnessing expert knowledge and skills, we specialise in delivering strategic excellence and creative brilliance.

The Role

As our audience and creative output continue to grow, we’re looking for a highly organised and design-sensitive Digital & Social Media Specialist to join our Digital team. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role supporting our digital content ecosystem; from sourcing beautiful visual content, to managing our publishing schedule across social channels, to engaging with our community and tracking content performance. As part of the Digital team, you’ll work closely with our Editorial, Partnerships and Design teams to ensure content is published in a timely, strategic and visually aligned manner. This role is perfect for someone who’s detail-obsessed, comfortable working across platforms and genuinely passionate about design storytelling.

What you’ll be doing…

Content curation

  • Source, resize and upload imagery for upcoming social content; including editorial and client campaigns.
  • Maintain and organise our visual content library in social scheduling tools, ensuring quality, accuracy and consistency.

Social media scheduling & publishing

  • Manage the daily social media schedule with support from senior team members, ensuring all posts are timely, visually refined and aligned with campaign goals.
  • Coordinate scheduling and rollout of all editorial, client and video campaigns (including The Local Project and The Commercial Project), as well as ad hoc initiatives such as giveaways.

Community management

  • Monitor and respond to comments and community engagement across Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest and TikTok.
  • Flag content trends or community insights to the broader team and ensure consistent tone of voice across platforms.

Campaign execution & rollout

  • Support the execution of client and brand campaigns — including copywriting, hashtag research, scheduling and tracking.
  • Collaborate with the Digital team to implement social rollouts for print publications, ensuring all digital assets are planned and published to deadline.

Reporting & insights

  • Own weekly and monthly performance reporting for both internal content and client campaigns.
  • Work closely with the Digital team to surface insights, measure success and identify ways to optimise performance.

Who you are…

  • A digitally fluent content or social media specialist with at least 2–3 years experience in a fast-paced creative or media environment.
  • Comfortable working across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Pinterest and YouTube with a strong sense of what performs where and why.
  • Detail-obsessed and design-aware; you care how content looks, feels and fits within a larger brand story.
  • Organised and calm under pressure; someone who thrives on running schedules, juggling deadlines and keeping a clean backend.
  • A clear communicator and collaborative team player who’s comfortable taking ownership of day-to-day delivery while staying aligned with broader brand direction.
  • Bonus points for experience with Sprout Social, Sked Social or similar scheduling tools.

Why join us…

Work with a passionate, creative and fast-moving team and be part of a brand that values design excellence and thoughtful storytelling. Get hands-on with high-impact projects seen by millions globally and grow with the role as our digital presence expands.

We strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people of any race, sexual orientation, gender, age or ethnicity, and those who are culturally or linguistically diverse, gender diverse, neuro-diverse or living with a disability.
