Job Description - Director and Senior Consultant, Employment & Industrial Relations

Talenting is a Perth\-based HR consultancy with a nationally recognised IR/ER practice. We deliver specialist industrial relations and employment relations advisory to clients across the private sector, not\-for\-profit, and government \- from enterprise bargaining and workplace investigations through to complex misconduct matters and strategic board\-level advice.

We’re a small, strong team with a clear purpose: to do good work for good organisations. Our leadership holds a national profile in the IR/ER profession, and our reputation is built on technical depth, direct advice, and outcomes that actually help the client.

We’re looking for an IR/ER specialist \- or two \- to join the team and help us deliver better outcomes for more clients.

The work

This is a specialist consulting role. You’ll carry a client load and deliver complex IR/ER work across sectors and organisational contexts, including:

  • Enterprise bargaining, union negotiations, and industrial disputes

  • Complex misconduct and performance management matters

  • Workplace investigations, reviews and inquiries

  • Employment law compliance, policy development, and risk advisory

  • Strategic advice to Boards, CEOs and executive teams on high\-risk employment matters

  • High\-quality written advice, reports and formal correspondence for senior audiences

  • Mentoring, coaching and advising our generalist consultants on complex IR/ER matters

Clients span the private sector, not\-for\-profit and aged care, and government. The work is varied, technically demanding, and directly consequential.

Requirements

Director or Senior Consultant

We may make one or two appointments depending on the strength of the candidate field.

Director: For a practitioner who brings established client relationships and the capability to take on operational leadership of a growing IR/ER practice. The Director joins the Talenting executive team, carries accountability for practice quality and commercial sustainability, and works alongside firm leadership to shape what the practice becomes. At Director level, the commercial model may include performance\-based remuneration and, over time, the opportunity to participate in the equity of the practice.

Senior Consultant: For a technically strong IR/ER practitioner with the ambition to grow into practice leadership. You’ll work with a high degree of autonomy, carrying your own client load, leading small project teams, and delivering complex work under the direction of firm leadership.

What you’ll need

  • Tertiary qualification in Law, Industrial Relations, Human Resources or a related discipline

  • Significant experience in complex IR/ER matters \- enterprise bargaining, disputes, investigations, misconduct, regulatory compliance

  • Strong technical knowledge of Australian employment law, including the Fair Work Act and modern awards. Experience in the WA state industrial relations system is highly valued.

  • The ability to deliver defensible written advice and high\-quality reports for senior audiences

  • Commercial awareness \- you understand that advice exists in a business context and needs to serve the client’s actual objectives

  • Experience in a consultancy or advisory environment is desirable but not essential \- what matters is that you can manage client relationships, work autonomously, and deliver

For the Director role: demonstrated ability to develop client relationships, build a practice offering, and take accountability for the quality and commercial sustainability of a service line.

Benefits

Why Talenting

We exist to do good work for good organisations \- providing the capability, capacity, and clarity they need to animate their talent. That vision shapes how we operate, who we hire, and how we develop our people.

What you’ll get:

  • A leadership team with a national profile in IR/ER and a genuine investment in your development

  • Membership of a small, high\-calibre team where your contribution is visible and valued

  • At Director level, a genuine role in leadership and decision\-making, and a key voice in firm strategy

  • Generous professional development allowance — we take mastery seriously and fund it accordingly

  • 5 weeks annual leave

  • Genuine flexibility \- hybrid working arrangements, negotiable FTE, and a culture that trusts you to manage your own practice

  • Varied, substantive work across sectors \- not a single\-client, single\-industry treadmill

  • A professional culture built on directness, evidence, and sound judgement \- not jargon and process compliance
