The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) is embarking on an exciting chapter with the appointment of new CEO, Janette Hewson. With a particular focus on delivering exceptional services to our members, this new phase will embrace innovative and collaborative ways of engaging members and stakeholders. We will be relentless in our on-going pursuit of raising awareness of our sector's contributions to our communities and state, and the continual innovation that we are embracing and investing in. Our industry will play a critical role in delivering a net zero future through our traditional commodities and critical minerals.

About the role:

The role will lead QRC's communications, government relations and external affairs function and will strategically enhance QRC's relationships with key stakeholders including Government, media and industry.

Your duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Develop communication and external affairs strategies that are aligned with QRC's priorities;
  • Communicate effectively with QRC member companies and stakeholders, in addition to the dissemination of information to stakeholders and the public;
  • Identify, plan, design and develop campaigns to drive industry reputation using a range of strategic communications and media channels;
  • Liaise, consult and influence key stakeholders including governments, oppositions, government departments, ministerial offices and councils;
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with industry, media, members, industry organisations and other relevant stakeholders;
  • Develop, oversee and execute a comprehensive internal and members communications strategy that helps to drive a positive organisation culture, as well as disseminate organisational priorities and strategies;
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with industry, media, members, industry organisations and other relevant stakeholders; and
  • Provide leadership and direction to an already high-performing team.

About the Person

To be successful for this role, you will be an experienced communications and external affairs leader with a passion for the resources sector.

You will also have:

  • Extensive experience in developing and implementing media, communications and government relations strategies.;
  • Experience working with the media including the ability to act as a spokesperson and provide advice;
  • An understanding of contemporary communications channels and the ability to incorporate social media and digital audiences into integrated campaigns;
  • Familiarity with the Queensland resources sector and the role of the QRC;
  • Existing strong network of contacts within the Government, media and Resources sectors;
  • Innovative, analytical thinking, ability to influence and work under pressure; and
  • Proven ability to inspire leadership, enthusiasm and commitment from the team.
