Job Description - Director, National News Content

Company Description
Nine is Australia’s largest locally owned media company. Working at Nine, you’ll have access to a unique range of experiences and opportunities, helping drive the success of the country’s most trusted television, radio, digital and publishing brands.

Our content reaches almost every Australian - meaning what we do has real impact. We bring people together, celebrate the big moments, and capture the everyday ones.

Some of our most beloved brands have been part of Australian life for generations, and others - new on the scene - have already found their place firmly in our lives. We’re evolving and we need people like you to bring new ideas, innovate and make your mark.

Job Description

The Director, National News Content acts as a senior editorial bridge, conduit, and service hub connecting the Foreign Bureau, Canberra Bureau, specialised national talent (such as Finance, Health & Technology), and all state-based newsrooms.

Reporting to the Executive Director of News & Current Affairs, you will play a key role in driving Nine’s ongoing News Transformation project by centralising the production of Australia’s best news content, reducing duplication, and amplifying trusted journalistic voices across all national bulletins and digital platforms.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a unified national news agenda while maintaining strong, collaborative partnerships across all local markets.

Day to day, you will:

  • Formulate the national daily news agenda and manage network meetings to drive cross-border alignment.

  • Consult with state markets to deploy senior talent and resources during breaking news events.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of content creators while fostering a culture of psychological safety.

  • Position the National Desk as a collaborative service hub, maintaining open, seamless communication with newsrooms nationwide.

  • Lead early planning strategies for major events, including Federal Budgets, elections, and RBA Rates Days, by establishing a live network calendar

  • Supervise coverage plans for Canberra, foreign bureaus, finance, technology, and health to optimise national impact.

  • Partner with US and London Bureau Chiefs to deliver high-quality global coverage.

What you'll bring:

  • Proven experience as a senior news leader or editorial manager in a major broadcast network.

  • Deep knowledge of federal politics, foreign affairs, finance, macroeconomics, technology, and health.

  • Proven ability to coordinate national resources accurately during fluid, high-pressure breaking news.

  • Exceptional diplomacy and stakeholder management skills to build trust across multiple newsrooms.

  • Comprehensive understanding of Australian media law and an uncompromising dedication to editorial standards.

  • Capability to navigate multiple time zones (e.g., AEST, AWST, UTC) and understand diverse market nuances.

To apply, please submit your resume and cover letter by 5pm on Friday, 3 July.
