Located in the Central West region of NSW is Orange City Council, based just 3.5hours inland of the Sydney CBD. The stunning region spans 290km and is home to over 42,000 residents. This modern city is a popular tourist known for their rich heritage, spectacular scenery, glorious vineyards and award-winning restaurants. Council provides a variety of services to the local community including waste management, water distribution, childcare, tourism support, coupled with the maintenance of the local roads, sport facilities, parks and gardens. Be part of the success across the Orange region.


The Opportunity
The ‘Director of Corporate & Commercial Services’ is expected to direct and lead staff across the division (50+ FTE), in conjunction with developing and implementing operational and strategic plans for Council’s corporate resources including corporate governance, internal audit, people and culture, information technology, economic development, corporate and community relations.


A key priority for this position is to attract business to the region, utilising your strong relationship management skills and beneficial connections to stimulate the local economy.


This position reports directly into the Chief Executive Officer, is part of the Executive Leadership team (7). Participation across Council meetings, briefings and appropriate committee meetings is to be expected, this includes providing quality advice, reports and recommendations.

About You
To be considered you will bring:

• Appropriate degree level qualifications in Business Management, Economic Development or similar.
• Extensive experience in a similar executive level position within a diverse organisation.
• Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, motivating and managing staff within an environment of continual change
• Strong communication skills (written and oral) to effectively communicate with elected members, businesses, regional organisations, local community interest groups and the general public.
• Ideally you will have demonstrated networks and relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including state and federal contacts.
• An understanding of the main challenges facing the local government sector.
