Director of Nursing

A unique opportunity has become available with Vision Hospital Group at our Boroondara Day Surgery! We’re seeking a highly motivated, senior clinical leader to support our dedicated team of surgeons and employees as the Director of Nursing. This opportunity is available as a period of parental leave cover, and we would be open to both full time or part time applicants.

About the role…

Boroondara Day Surgery is our newest ophthalmic day hospital in the Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn having opened its doors in mid-2023. Following significant refurbishment, Boroondara is beautifully appointed, complete with a private admission room, bright and spacious operating theatre, on-site central sterile supply department, large two-stage recovery area and several consulting rooms. 

As 1 of our 5 day hospitals in Victoria, Boroondara is expertly supported by our broader Vision Hospital Group team as well as a suite of corporate functions such as Quality & Compliance, Marketing, Finance, Billing and People & Culture.

As Director of Nursing, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a number of specialist surgeons, including Dr Jack Kane - an internationally renowned expert in cataract surgery; Dr Lewis Levitz - a highly experienced ophthalmic surgeon and Vision Eye Institute’s Medical Director; Dr Nick Mantzioros and Dr Thomas Gin – two highly specialist VMOs specialising in cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration and retina surgery between the two of them.

About you…

As Director of Nursing, you will take carriage of the day-to-day operational & clinical management of Boroondara Day Surgery. You’ll lead a highly specialised team, and oversee the key performance measures including clinical outcomes, patient experience, financial performance, and growth of the business.

You will have responsibility for Quality, Safety and Risk management practices in accordance with the NSQHS, as well as providing operational and clinical leadership, ensuring service delivery is integrated and effective. 

The essential stuff… 

• AHPRA Registration
• 5+ years Perioperative Nursing experience (Ophthalmology highly advantageous)
• 2+ years Management experience (NUM or DON level)
• Results driven and ability to work under pressure 
• Experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team
• Excellent communication and relationship building skills
