The Opportunity
An exceptional opportunity is available for an experienced Specialist Paediatrician to step into a Director of Paediatrics role within a large regional referral hospital servicing a vast and diverse catchment across remote and rural Australia.
This is a strategic leadership position offering the chance to shape, grow and lead paediatric services while maintaining a strong clinical component. The role combines hands-on clinical care, service development, workforce leadership, training, and community engagement, making it ideal for a senior paediatrician seeking both professional impact and lifestyle balance.
About the Paediatric Department
The Paediatric Department is a cornerstone service within the hospital, providing comprehensive secondary-level paediatric care to both the local community and surrounding remote regions.
Key features include:
A busy inpatient paediatric unit managing a wide range of acute and chronic presentations
A well-established outpatient service, including general paediatrics and subspecialty clinics
Close collaboration with Emergency, Maternity, Neonatal, Aboriginal Health, Allied Health and Retrieval Services
Strong involvement in telehealth and outreach services, supporting smaller remote facilities and communities
A focus on culturally appropriate care, including care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children
Active participation in teaching, supervision and mentoring of junior medical staff and trainees
As Director, you will provide clinical governance and strategic leadership, ensuring high standards of care, workforce sustainability, quality improvement, and future service development.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the Paediatric Department, including medical workforce planning and service delivery
Provide senior clinical care and on-call support
Drive quality, safety and clinical governance initiatives
Support education, supervision and training
Contribute to outreach and regional paediatric models of care
Work closely with executive leadership and multidisciplinary teams
Remuneration & Benefits
Total remuneration package approx. $560,000 – $690,000 per annum
5 weeks annual leave
40–50% attraction and retention incentive
Motor vehicle allowance
15% regional/rural attraction allowance
Professional development allowance + additional PD leave

Specialist registration as a Paediatrician with AHPRA
Eligibility to work in Australia
