About the role
The role covers the strategic function within the IT Office, supporting the CIO to deliver technology leadership, governance, and operational excellence across the University. You will act as a central hub for IT strategy, planning, governance, and cross-functional coordination, enabling the CIO to focus on innovation and alignment with institutional goals. This position plays a pivotal role in supporting the CIO in the execution of strategic IT initiatives, governance, and operational oversight.
This role reports directly to the CIO and will assist in driving collaboration across the IT directorates to achieve strategic and operational goals as well as attend leadership meetings when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic planning processes and ensure alignment of IT initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with the respective IT Directors and Senior IT leadership team, to support the monitoring of performance, and manage the achievement of strategic goals and objectives defined for the respective Directorates, to defined scope, cost, and schedule.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships.
- Identify and mitigate IT risks.
- Coordinate and manage IT governance forums, including preparation of executive reports, risk registers,and compliance documentation.
- Oversee IT policy development, audit responses, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Support the CIO in managing IT budgets, resource planning, and performance reporting.
Qualifications, skills & experience
- Post grad qualifications in Information Technology, Business, or a related field;
- Extensive experience in IT governance, strategy, or enterprise program management.
- Demonstrated experience working with senior executives and managing complex stakeholder environments.
- Proven experience in leading cross functional teams and strategic initiatives to continuously improve team strategy, delivery and influence culture across an organisation
- Strong understanding of IT governance frameworks (e.g. Agile, Prince2)
- Experience with enterprise planning, budgeting, and performance reporting.
- Knowledgeable of broad range of IT services including, but not limited to - IT security, network, storage, operating systems, cyber security controls, policies and standards, Audio Visual (AV) services, IT services
infrastructure, managing Microsoft operating systems and systems management technologies, including Microsoft Azure and M365 environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills (written and verbal).
