Job Description - Director, People and Culture

The Director, People & Culture (Human Resources) for GumGum’s JAPAC region will lead HR initiatives across the JAPAC region which includes Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Japan. The successful candidate will bring HR business partner expertise in the areas of organizational design, talent planning, employee engagement and retention. They will serve as an advisor and consultant to Senior Leadership on People related issues and as a Leader on the People team. And will play a key role in aligning JAPAC HR goals and initiatives to the JAPAC business strategy(s) and global People (HR) team strategy.

Operating within a matrixed environment, the Director, People & Culture will directly manage regional People (HR) team members and will work cross functionally with HR leadership and team members at GumGum’s U.S.-based headquarters. Key areas of responsibility will include HR business partnership, HR operations, employee experience & engagement, diversity & inclusion, and talent acquisition. This leader plays a key role in fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture, implementing effective HR policies, and supporting the company's growth objectives.

Additionally, this person maintains an effective level of business knowledge, its financial measures, culture and competition. This role reports to the Global Chief People Officer and is part of the People leadership team. Must live within commutable distance to our office in Sydney’s city center and be willing to work in the office 2 - 3+ days per week and as needed with the other days working remotely from home.

What You'll Achieve

  • Strategic HR Leadership:
    • Develop and execute HR strategies aligned with business and global HR objectives.
    • Provide strategic guidance on organizational and talent issues.
    • Collaborate on job descriptions, compensation, and hiring processes.
    • Conduct regular meetings to address HR needs.
  • Talent Acquisition & Management:
    • While not directly responsible for recruitment, oversee recruitment to ensure top talent acquisition.
    • Implement effective onboarding programs.
    • Develop and implement strategies to retain key employees.
  • Employee Relations:
    • Promote diversity, equality, and a positive work environment.
    • Address employee concerns and grievances fairly.
    • Enhance employee engagement through effective communication.
  • Performance Management:
    • Lead quarterly and annual performance feedback processes.
    • Guide performance evaluations, career development, and goal setting.
  • Compliance & Policies:
    • Ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations.
    • Update HR policies to reflect legal standards and best practices.
    • Collaborate with the global team for consistent policies.
  • Benefits Administration:
    • Design and administer benefits programs in partnership with HQ.
    • Ensure competitive and attractive benefit offerings.
  • HR Analytics:
    • Track key HR metrics and provide insights for decision-making.
  • Employee Engagement & Retention:
    • Improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity.
    • Plan and execute engagement activities aligned with company values.
  • Management & Leadership:
    • Manage the JAPAC People team (2 members).
    • Contribute to global and regional HR strategic planning.
    • Collaborate with regional counterparts as needed.

Skills You'll Bring

  • Degree in Commerce (HR Management), Psychology, or equivalent experience; Master's/MBA is a plus.
  • At least 8 years of relevant HR experience.
  • Hands-on experience across HR disciplines, including compensation, organizational design, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and employment laws.
  • Experience resolving complex employee relations issues.
  • Knowledge of business fundamentals across products, operations, and financials.
  • Experience managing small teams.
  • Experience in a global organization with U.S. headquarters is a plus.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Advanced consulting and negotiation skills.
  • Workshop facilitation and change management experience.
  • Ability to link HR solutions to business outcomes.
  • High degree of professionalism and diplomacy.
  • Growth mindset and self-awareness.
