Positive Care and Supports are seeking to find a Support Worker who will have knowledge and experience in Mental Health. Due to service constraints, we are seeking female support workers but will review all applications for roles across multiple services.
This position is based in Bondi, NSW.
A disability support worker with Mental Health experience typically has specialised training and skills for assisting individuals who have Mental health diagnosis.
Their expertise often includes:
1. **Understanding of Mental Health:** Deep knowledge of symptoms, including compulsions, hallucinations, obsessions, and how these can vary between individuals.
2. **Behavioral Therapy Skills:** knowledge in techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or similar behaviour support
3. **Patience and Empathy:** Ability to be patient and empathetic, recognising that MH behaviors are not within the individual's control and require understanding and support.
4. **Personalized Support Planning:** Skill in developing and implementing personalized support plans that address specific symptoms while also catering to the overall well-being of the individual.
5. **Crisis Management:** Capability to handle situations where symptoms may become overwhelming for the individual, ensuring their safety and providing necessary interventions.
6. **Educational Guidance:** Providing education and guidance to the individual and their family, coping strategies, and ways to support the individual in their daily life.
7. **Collaboration with Healthcare Professionals:** Working collaboratively with healthcare professionals, such as psychiatrists or therapists, to ensure a coordinated approach to the individual's care.
8. **Advocacy and Awareness:** Advocating for the needs of individuals with Mental health and raising awareness about the disorder among peers, in the workplace, and within the community.
9. **Ongoing Learning:** Commitment to ongoing professional development to stay updated on the latest research and best practices in support.
10. **Adaptability:** Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of individuals, recognising that symptoms can fluctuate over time.
This role requires a balance of specialized knowledge, interpersonal skills, and a commitment to compassionate care.
Training will be provided on shift. There will be an opportunity to learn more from the participant prior to engaging in service.
Current shifts available for an applicant would be:
Monday 1100-1700
Thursday 1100-1700
Friday 1100-1700
PC&S will require a an experience in support, a car, a current first aid certificate. The role requires mandatory checks and reference checks.
