Why this role matters

The Doorways program provides person centred care to community members experiencing financial or other forms of hardship through the provision of financial and material emergency relief. Case management is provided at some of the Doorway’s sites to engage people through early intervention as well as address long term disadvantage to break the cycle of poverty and alleviate financial hardship. Our practitioners are strength based and trauma informed in their practice to build individual capacity, resilience and wellbeing.

About the role

Join our growing Emergency Relief team! As an Emergency Relief Assessor, you will be responsible for assessing community member needs and determining appropriate financial assistance (emergency relief) and/or referrals. If you are driven by a deep sense of compassion and have a knack for identifying the best possible avenues for assistance, then we invite you to join us.

How you will make an impact

· Conduct interviews and assessment for emergency relief (ER) with community members over the phone in accordance with Doorways guidelines

· Determine the assistance to be provided in line with Doorway’s standards of practice

· Community members are assisted to access support services through referral and advocacy to service providers within and external to The Salvation Army, where appropriate

· Actively support the local mission delivery model by working collaboratively with Corps

· Risks to community members, staff and TSA are identified and brought to the attention of the relevant Line Manager as soon as possible

· Service gaps are identified and recommendations for service delivery improvements are made to the relevant Line Manager

· Practice adherence with TSA’s Policies and Procedures, Doorways Model of Care and Practice Guides

· Participate and contribute to continuous improvement

This is a permanent Part - time position (Max Term 1 Jul 2027), located in Canberra ACT. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Level 3 Award.

What you will bring

· Certificate IV (minimum) qualification in a related field (Community Services etc)

· Experience working in the community services sector

· Experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds would be beneficial

· Experience working in a fast-paced environment (contact centre) would be highly regarded

· A current and valid Working with Children’s Check

· A willingness to undergo a National Police Check
