We are seeking candidates who demonstrate an exceptional abilityto meet the educational needs of students and fosters positive andproductive relationships with staff across the School to join ourcommunity.

The role of the Education Assistant (Special Needs)Primary is to:

  • Work under the direction of the Head of Diverse Learning,Head of Primary, and teachers, and independently andcollaboratively work with other education assistants to supportstudents’ learning.
  • Implement intervention and learning programs forindividuals or small groups of students to improve literacy,numeracy, and general capabilities.
  • Provide targeted support to individuals with diagnosedlearning difficulties and disabilities within a positiveframework to assist them in achieving their potential.
  • Support all students under the direction of subject andclass teachers within a classroom or small group setting.
  • Adopt a flexible approach to the role and the ability tomulti-task and problem-solve.
  • Foster a child-safe environment and culture whereinclusivity and diversity are respected and embraced to ensureevery child achieves their hopes and dreams.
  • To develop independence in students as they develop andprogress through the various stages of schooling.
  • Use sound written, verbal and interpersonal communicationskills with students, staff, and families.
  • Be an excellent role model and mentor for students acrossthe School.
  • Support our values and work to help us achieve our missionand vision.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a Certificate III or IV in School-Based EducationSupport (CHC40221) (or equivalent or higher).
  • Hold a current Working with Children Check and a ProvideFirst Aid in an Education and Care Setting Certificate(HLTAID0012).
  • Have previous experience as an Education Assistant workingin small groups of students and with individual students withdiverse learning needs.
  • Have the ability to work in a flexible working environmentwith teachers, education assistants, educationparaprofessionals and students.
  • Support our values and will work to help us achieve ourmission and vision.

Highly desirable:

  • Have experience working with students with special needs,including those with sensory impairments and diversesocio-emotional needs.
  • Familiar with the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) teachingstrategies, Sounds-Write program, or the Heggerty Phonological& Phonemic Awareness Curriculum.
  • Be experienced in using Microsoft for Education and theadaptive use of technologies to support student learning.
  • contribute to the broader School community and engage inour co-curricular program.
