Job Description - EL1 Technical Assurance - CIO Branch

Approach Consulting is proud to be partnering with one of Australia’s leading intelligence agencies at the forefront of tackling serious and organised crime impacting Australia.

You will join the CIO Branch which is responsible for the provision and support of the ACIC’s critical infrastructure such as data centres, networks, service desk, desktop, video, cyber security and enterprise architecture.

About the role
The Assistant Director Technical Assurance is responsible for day-to-day oversight and assurance functions over the ACIC’s Infrastructure Operations remit, including Projects. This includes providing leadership and guidance to ensure supported systems maintain a high level of availability, performance, and security. You will work closely with the Director of Infrastructure Operations, providing specialist advice in the provision and operation of complex infrastructure and platforms.
Key responsibilities:
  • Development of work plans and monitoring workflows to meet objectives and timeframes
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation and performance of the Technical Assurance team and prioritisation of workloads
  • Ensure availability, performance and capacity requirements are met for ACIC ICT, including incident management, problem resolution, and future planning requirements
  • Provide technical expertise and compliance around procured services in the ACIC environment in accordance with relevant procurement guidelines.
  • Apply technical leadership to ensure the ACIC’s Infrastructure environments remain secure in accordance with relevant Commonwealth and Agency security policy.
  • Manage the technical requirements of the business including development of service improvement plans and participation/facilitation of technical subject matter expertise into Divisional projects.
  • Ensure that operational procedures and working practices are fit for purpose and current.
  • Ensure all Infrastructure changes are aligned with agreed ACIC architecture and ACIC operational frameworks.
  • Manage and maintain contract services and associated vendor relationships that underpin the provision of ACIC’s ICT Infrastructure services.
  • Promote the ACIC’s business objectives through key strategic relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure planning is in place to provide accurate financial forecasting for budgets.
  • Lead a blended workforce of APS and contractor employees in accordance with APS values and ACIC procurement requirements.
  • Other duties as directed.
Our ideal candidate
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following experience, skills and attributes:
  • Demonstrated understanding of or experience in the administration of complex enterprise infrastructure technologies such as VMWare, CISCO, NetApp, HPE, Palo Alto, FortiGate, Oracle Exadata, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a high performing team of technical specialists.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to translate complex technical jargon into business terms that can be understood by a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience operating within mature ITIL-based framework.
