Job Description - Employability Consultant (Diversity and Campus Projects)

This is an exciting opportunity to join the University of Newcastle in paving the way towards delivering effective, student-centred career and employment services.

As an integral member of the Curriculum and Careers team, the Employability Consultant (Diversity and Campus Projects) is responsible for providing quality career learning and employability development activities to students across the University of Newcastle. You will work closely with professional and academic staff to support the delivery of evidence based, career learning consistently across academic programs and student cohorts with a particular focus on equity and diversity cohorts.Additionally, you will provide career consultation for students identified through the Careers Service triage process and support the Careers Service team members through professional mentoring.

This ongoing part time position for 3 days per week will be located at the Callaghan Campus (Awabakal and Worimi land).

About the Unit

The Careers and Employability Team supports enterprise-wide career learning and employability development projects for University of Newcastle students and alumni. The team’s activities are steered by the goals of the Life Ready Graduates strategy within the Looking Ahead Strategic Plan.

How will you inspire us?

You will have experience in the employability space, particularly in the design and delivery of career development learning and employability development activities. A well-developed understanding of recruitment practices and experience in career counselling and training techniques will be highly valued. The ability to foster and nurture relationships with a variety of stakeholders ranging from students through to executive level to support the delivery of career and employability key messages. Experience as a leader who will strive to foster an environment of continuous improvement and innovation with a focus on contributing to positive learning experiences for students.

Communication and interpersonal skills are a strength, along with skills to develop and maintain productive relationships, partnerships, and networks. Knowledge of career learning frameworks, tools and methodologies is essential while an understanding of Work Integrated Learning may be beneficial.

  1. A degree with at least four years subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise in technical or administrative fields; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training

  3. Demonstrated ability to provide authoritative advice on employability and career learning
  4. Demonstrated experience delivering career development sessions for individuals and/ or groups
  5. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills including the capacity to build relationships and an inter-disciplinary way of working.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively and bring together people from different areas to participate in School/Division or University wide Employability initiatives.
