Job Description - Engagement Coordinator

Your Role as Engagement Coordinator

The Engagement Coordinator leads Wesley Mission Queensland's volunteer recruitment and engagement function, ensuring a high-quality, compliant and efficient end-to-end volunteer experience. Working closely with internal stakeholders, this role oversees volunteer attraction, recruitment, onboarding and placement while providing functional leadership to the Engagement Officer.

By driving recruitment strategies, monitoring performance and fostering collaborative partnerships, the Engagement Coordinator plays a key role in building a sustainable volunteer workforce that strengthens our services and communities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and supporting the day-to-day activities of the Engagement Officer, providing functional guidance and coaching.

  • Developing and implementing volunteer recruitment strategies to attract a diverse and sustainable volunteer workforce.

  • Partnering with service leaders to identify volunteer workforce needs and develop engaging volunteer position descriptions.

  • Overseeing the end-to-end volunteer recruitment, selection, onboarding and placement process, ensuring all compliance requirements are met.

  • Acting as the primary point of contact for complex volunteer recruitment enquiries and providing expert advice to internal stakeholders.

  • Monitoring volunteer recruitment activity, analysing data and reporting on recruitment performance, trends and outcomes.

  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance recruitment processes, volunteer engagement and placement success.

  • Coordinating volunteer recognition initiatives and representing Volunteer Relations at internal and external events.

  • Building strong relationships with community organisations and stakeholders to promote volunteer opportunities and strengthen volunteer pipelines.

  • Supporting the Team Leader – Projects with strategic initiatives and other duties as required.

This is a part-time position consisting of 27.5 hours per week.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong understanding of the non-profit sector and the operational requirements of delivering volunteer services in diverse community settings.

  • Demonstrated expertise in end-to-end recruitment, including multi-channel sourcing, candidate screening and values-aligned interviewing.

  • Proven ability to lead, mentor and support a small team to achieve high-performance outcomes.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and build collaborative relationships.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience developing reports, position descriptions and recruitment content.

  • High-level accuracy in data management, reporting and documentation, ensuring regulatory compliance.

  • Experience using CRM platforms, Volunteer Management Systems and data to monitor performance and inform decision-making.

  • A proactive approach to identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and implementing innovative recruitment solutions.

A Valuable Addition, Yet Not a Must-Have!

  • Tertiary qualification, diploma or equivalent experience in Community Services, Volunteer Management, Human Resources, Administration or a related field.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement and volunteer lifecycle best practice.

  • Experience leading volunteer recruitment or workforce engagement programs within the community, aged care or not-for-profit sector.

Essential Requirements

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination status (or as required by legislation and WMQ policy).

  • Relevant probity checks required by legislation and Wesley Mission Queensland policy.

  • Current Driver's Licence and willingness to travel as required.
