What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

• Driving alignment and momentum across diverse teams and time zones

• Partnering with Product and Design to roadmap, resource, and realise our goals

• Leading a team of engineers and mentoring emerging leaders

• Building a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture

• Making technical decisions that shape the future of our Visual Suite Platform

• Designing, developing, and deploying features in collaboration with cross-functional teams

• Prioritising ruthlessly to focus on the most impactful work

• Championing engineering excellence and scalable backend architecture

You're probably a match if:

• You’ve led high-performing backend engineers

• You’re technically strong, with a deep understanding of backend systems and architectural design

• You’ve shipped complex products from early concept through to scale

• You’ve worked in distributed cloud environments (AWS experience is a bonus)

• You bring a pragmatic and user-first mindset to software development

• You’re excited about empowering teams to do the best work of their lives

About the team

The Visual Suite Platform team is the bedrock of backend and ML engineering across our suite of visual productivity tools. With 20+ engineers, we deliver critical infrastructure and powerful features that support rich, interactive experiences across the Visual Suite. Our roadmap is full of exciting projects, including deeper AI/ML integrations and power-user tooling that will redefine how users design and collaborate.
