Job Description - Events Manager

Alexandria (Sydney HQ) | Full-time

This role 4 days per week onsite at Sydney HQ with regular interstate travel and occasional international travel.

The Local Project is one of the fastest-growing design publications across Australia, New Zealand, and North America. We celebrate extraordinary local design and its global impact through premium print, digital, video, and social content. With over 100 million impressions per month, we’re redefining design media on a global scale. In 2024, we expanded with The Local Production, a full-service creative agency dedicated to elevating brands through strategic storytelling and high-end content creation.

Role Overview

The Events Manager is responsible for the end-to-end planning, coordination and delivery of all events and activations for The Local Project. This includes intimate industry gatherings through to large-scale brand experiences and international activations.

This is a senior operational role with full accountability for execution, guest experience, financial management and on-the-ground delivery. Creative direction, visual strategy and content are owned by the Marketing manager. This role exists to ensure every event is delivered flawlessly from an operational, financial and guest experience perspective.

You will work closely with the CEO and CEO’s EA and will regularly travel interstate, with occasional international travel as the events platform continues to expand. You will be a confident executor and a natural driver who can run events independently, make decisions in real time and take full ownership of outcomes.

This role suits someone who thrives in high-responsibility environments, leads through action, and takes pride in building strong processes that support premium, brand-aligned experiences. This role has a clear pathway into a future Head of Events position as the business continues to scale.

Responsibilities

Event Planning and Delivery

  • Own the end-to-end operational planning and delivery of all events across Australia and internationally
  • Lead timelines, working schedules, run sheets and critical paths
  • Independently manage events from concept approval through to post-event wrap
  • Be on-site for events as required to lead operational delivery and decision-making
  • Manage bump-in and bump-out logistics across venues, suppliers and internal teams
  • Act as the primary decision maker for all live operational matters

Guest and Partner Experience

  • Own guest experience from invitation through to post-event follow up
  • Manage VIP logistics in collaboration with the CEO and CEO’s EA
  • Ensure partner, sponsor and stakeholder deliverables are executed to a high standard
  • Uphold luxury hospitality standards across all events

Suppliers and Venues

  • Lead all venue, supplier, catering, contractor and technical coordination
  • Manage briefings, confirmations and service delivery
  • Build and maintain trusted supplier relationships nationally and internationally

Finance and Operations

  • Own event budgets end-to-end including forecasting, tracking and reconciliation
  • Manage quotes, approvals, invoices and cost reporting
  • Maintain accurate operational documentation and financial records
  • Ensure events remain commercially responsible and financially controlled

Internal Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Marketing Manager who owns creative direction and visual strategy
  • Collaborate with the CEO and CEO’s EA on guest lists, VIP management and expectations
  • Work with the Partnerships Operations Manager on events tied to partner agreements
  • Coordinate with Production, Design and Digital teams where events intersect with content capture

About you

  • 5+ years’ experience in events, activations or operations management
  • Proven ability to independently run and deliver complex events end-to-end
  • Strong leadership presence with calm judgement in high-pressure environments
  • Highly organised, process-driven and detail-focused
  • Confident in financial management, budgeting and operational decision-making
  • Experience working in luxury, premium or high-profile brand environments (preferred)
  • Professional, composed and effective with senior stakeholders and partners
  • Comfortable collaborating with creative teams without owning creative direction
  • Motivated to grow into a future senior leadership role
